East Bay Regional Park District Fire Department Fire Protection * Fuels Management * Search and Rescue The East Bay has a long history of wildland fires.

The East Bay Regional Park District Fire Department provides fire suppression and emergency medical service (basic life support) to Park District visitors to 65 Regional Park throughout Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. Hillsides formerly covered by grassland have become covered by many non-native exotic annual grasses and by densely growing non-native pine, cypress and eucalyptus trees. This inc

rease in vegetation means an increase in fuel, while landscaped houses nestled in among maturing trees, brush and other vegetation have become fuels themselves. The Fire Department is committed to prevent, respond, control, and minimize the impacts of fire within and adjacent to District parklands. The Fire Department also oversees Search and Rescue and Hazardous Material Response as well as Lifeguard services For the East Bay Regional Park District. Engine 5661 has deployed with XAL 2004C to the Timber Fire in Monterey County. As of 1523 on August 10th the fire is 5% contained and has grown to 1723 acres.

On Friday July 24th and Tuesday July 28th East Bay Regional Parks Fire along with Richmond Firefighters Local 188 and Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to two separate vegetation fires at Point Pinole Regional Shoreline.
Thanks to a quick response by fire resources and the Park District’s helicopter Eagle 8, both fires were extinguished and contained to under four acres.
