BB guns can look incredibly similar to real fi****ms, especially from a distance or during a fast-moving situation. That makes it difficult for both the public and law enforcement officers to immediately tell whether someone is carrying a BB gun or a real rifle.

That uncertainty can quickly create a dangerous situation.

It’s also important to remember that East Bay Regional Park District Ordinance 38, Section 403.1 prohibits BB guns in East Bay Regional Parks.

Please leave BB guns and similar weapons at home when visiting our parks. Following park rules helps keep visitors, staff, and responding officers safe.

🚲 Working Together for Safer Trails, Streets & Schools ⚡

Earlier this week, law enforcement agencies from across the region joined forces for a coordinated bicycle and e-bike safety enforcement operation along the Iron Horse Trail, Contra Costa Canal Trail, nearby streets, and school zones.

With 45 officers participating, the operation focused on education, voluntary compliance, and enforcement to help keep everyone—riders, pedestrians, students, and drivers—safe.

Operation results:

194 community contacts
56 citations
137 warnings and educational contacts
1 arrest for drug possession
1 vehicle tow

Officers addressed unsafe behaviors and violations involving speeding, stop signs, helmet requirements, prohibited Class 3 e-bikes and motorized vehicles, and other bicycle, e-bike, and vehicle safety concerns.

But this effort was about more than numbers. By working together across jurisdictional boundaries, participating agencies were able to provide a strong, visible presence while connecting directly with the community about safe and responsible riding and driving.

A special thank you to all of our regional partners who contributed personnel, resources, and planning support.

Our next coordinated operation is scheduled for September 17 as we continue our shared commitment to making our trails, streets, school zones, and communities safer for everyone.

Ride safely. Follow the rules of the road. Look out for one another.

Bicycle & E-Bike Safety Enforcement Operations

The Danville Police Department is joining forces with neighboring law enforcement agencies and East Bay Regional Park District to promote safety and accountability on the Iron Horse Trail.

We will be conducting a multi-agency e-bike enforcement collaboration on August 18 and September 17, 2026. These operations will promote safer riding practices, increase compliance with traffic laws, and address unsafe behaviors that may pose risks to bicyclists, e-bike riders, pedestrians, and motorists.

The joint efforts help strengthen partnerships between agencies and reinforce our shared commitment for a safe community.
