Heads up Medina County. We have a severe thunderstorm approaching the county from the west. This storm will likely produce some flash flooding in low lying areas and at our low water crossings.

If you must be on the roads use caution and do not drive into any moving water or water you can not see the road. While the rain is welcome we are starting to see more runoff creating the minor flash flooding. Remember

A severe thunderstorm has now entered the County and will continue pushing through the entire county. Expect flash flooding and possible hail and high winds.

If out on the roads use caution as the water can rise quickly without warning and only a few inches of moving water can quickly sweep a vehicle away.

Today we had the privilege of spending time with several Medina Valley ISD campuses for Career Day, talking with students about what it’s really like to be a fire fighter.

From responding to emergencies at all hours to training to teamwork and serving our community, we shared the realities and rewards of the job. The questions were great. The energy was high and it’s always inspiring to see the next generation curious about public service.

But as we reminded them firefighters aren’t just firefighters. We are also parents, coaches, mechanics, ranchers, and apparently, in at least one case something more.

Things took an unexpected turn when a teacher produced a Lightsaber and revealed firefighter Hansen‘s alternate identity. Johnathon Fire Walker, turns out the force is strong in our department!!!!!

We appreciate the opportunity to connect with the students and show them that while the job is serious we never lose our sense of humor and may be a little mystery.

Just before 2pm this afternoon 911 began receiving calls reporting a house on fire in the Redbird Ranch subdivision. Stations 15,14 and 10 responded.

Engine and Medic 15 arrived within 7 minutes reporting smoke from the house. Crews quickly made entry and located a fire in the kitchen that was immediately extinguished preventing any further damage to the house.

Crews were able to remove the burned stove and ensure all fire in the walls and cabinets was located and extinguished followed by removing all smoke from the house.

The quick response and decisive actions kept the fire damage isolated to the kitchen preventing further loss for the residents.

Great job by all responding crews on another successful save due to quick response and actions once on scene.
