Over the weekend, our ad account was disabled. This isn't unusual for ad accounts that are "restricted" in some way (political, real estate, etc.) due to laws.

Just had the chance to talk with Facebook help, and it was immediately reactivated. That's sort of lucky, because it can sometimes be a long process.

My guess is a bot flagged the account, but it turns out it really wasn't violating any Facebook ad policy. Once a human looked at the ad setup, everything was ok.

Spent just $12.14 so far. Now that the ads are on, they'll spend up to $15/day for a couple weeks.

It's not as easy as you might think to run political ads on Facebook. Not only is there a cumbersome approval process (see immediately previous post), but the internal ad system seems to be broken and no-one knows how to fix it 😂

After creating ads and getting an error message last week, I reached out to Facebook. They didn't know how to fix the error either and said they'd email me - didn't happen.* So I just recreated that ad campaign from scratch and now it's ok.

Today we launched $15/day ads to help get the word out to Fauquier County residents so that 1)they're aware of this issue and 2) to get petition signatures.

Wish us luck that we don't get any more error messages! 🤞🤞🤞

*My 3rd time running "restricted" ads, this is usually how it goes.. Facebook Ad Manager system throws an error at the ads so they can't run and the Ad Specialist is left to figure it out.. SMH..

SEWER UPDATE
We raised $170 to use for Facebook ads to raise awarness about the Catlett Sewer issue and to get more signatures.

We are getting Facebook approval to run political ads, which is many steps (see video). They even mail your home address to confirm your identity.

We plan to run ads later this week. Thanks for your support!

{SEWER UPDATE}

State Delegate Elizabeth Guzman's office has been hard at work contacting other offices regarding the sewer issue.
We really appreciate the time her Legislative Director Christopher has put into this!

- We are talking with the PATH Foundation to see if they can be of assistance. Ironically, I’ve been to one of their office many times (for the Fauquier Chamber of Commerce), but didn’t quite connect that they request grants on behalf of others. This is just what we need- very helpful connection. Sen. Guzman’s office and myself are talking with them.

- Senator Jill Vogel's office has spoken with Congressman Bob Good's office and we’re waiting to hear back on their response.

- Delegate Guzman’s office called the intergovernmental agency for the Commonwealth to see what grants Fauquier County might be eligible for. Note: There will be new federal infrastructure money that will be made available to states.

- I contacted former (Hawaii) State Representative Joe Gomes to inquire if there was any other lobbying that we could do. He suggested that the upcoming federal infrastructure bill would be a good source of funding, and this is the exact type of project it was written for - sewers.

- I am also contemplating a Facebook Ad campaign to inform other Fauquier residents and attain their signature for the petition. This might require I do a go fund me campaign, since really this would take at least $100 and much likely more. I think having relevant petition signers might be influential at the federal level. DM me if you think I should pursue this or want to donate.

Please share the original petition post below (May 25) to help us get more signatures.

Catlett/ Calverton Sewer update:
(Help families afford the sewer project - sign our petition).

FEDERAL
Rob Whittman’s office returned my call and informed me that the local sewer is out of their jurisdiction. I asked about getting EPA funding for the project, and they suggested individuals outside their office apply for funding.

STATE
Sen. Vogel & Delegate Guzman are still looking into whether they can help in some way. They are talking to a state department or two.

LOCAL
We are walking the petition around the Catlett / Calverton area. The work is slow because everyone has a story to tell about the sewer. 😉

There is a long memory of how the sewer project has been mismanaged over the decades. There have been a number of opportunities to create the sewer without taxpayer dollars (from Aerlie’s offer, to a developer’s offer, to $1M+ state funding that was given to the county for the sewer -but may have not been earmarked for the sewer and possibly spent on other projects).

It’s been simply wonderful to chat with neighbours and get to know them. No one is happy about the project. Most are VERY suspicious that we are developing the area for future commercial use. Sewers come first, then nearby land can be legally transitioned to commercial use, and developed.

To help support these families, encourage legislators to seek grants for the sewer project, instead of charging exorbitant fees to residents. Sign the petition http://bit.ly/CatlettSewer
and share this post.

Thank you for your time!

When we bought our home, we had no idea the excitement we were in for.

Renovating projects aside, one of the most shocking costs is a new sewer mandated for our area - Catlett / Calverton, Virginia.

While we are in the country - a low to moderate income area - our sewer will cost about $46K. That’s quite high, and even higher than the middle to high income area of Middleburg.

The truth is residents have no options, the only option is to pay $46K up front. There isn’t a way to opt out or a way to get a price break by income, as in other areas.

We have created a petition and would like people far and wide to sign it so that the County, State, or Federal representatives better address this issue and seek more grants for the project.

We’ve done the research and determined more grants are available. Additional government funding might also be available at the state or federal level.

There are many retirees and young families in our area who cannot make the payment the county requires. Some are at a loss for what to do, while others are forced to sell their homes.

Could you take a moment to sign the petition? It only requires name, email, city, and zip code.

For evil to win, it only requires that you do nothing. Please help us out by taking a moment to read and sign our petition.
