Police Activity Near Catskill Elementary School Determined to Pose No Public Threat
Catskill, NY — June 3, 2026 — On today's date, the Catskill Police Department responded to a report of an unknown male subject who entered an apartment building located across from Catskill Elementary School.
Upon arrival, officers determined that the individual had left the location prior to their arrival. Although the incident occurred outside the Village of Catskill's jurisdiction, Catskill Police officers responded due to the nature of the information received and their proximity to the location. The investigation was subsequently turned over to the New York State Police.
Due to the police presence and activity in close proximity to the school, school officials made the decision to place Catskill Elementary School in lockdown as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff.
At this time, there is no evidence to suggest there was any threat to the public. No weapons were involved, and no threats were made in connection with this incident.
The individual involved has been identified; however, attempts to contact the subject have been unsuccessful at this time.
We would also like to commend the administration, faculty, and staff of Catskill Elementary School for their professionalism and commitment to student safety. Their prompt actions and adherence to established safety procedures helped ensure a safe and orderly environment throughout the incident.
