Today, K-9 Lilly and her handler, Officer Del Gandio, had the pleasure of visiting the wonderful seniors at Home Sweet Home on the Hudson. As a therapy dog in training, Lilly brought plenty of smiles, comfort, and companionship to everyone she met.

These visits provide meaningful connections and brighten the day for residents, and Lilly's gentle personality made the experience especially memorable. Thank you to Home Sweet Home on the Hudson for the warm welcome. We look forward to visiting again soon!

Earlier today, officers responded to a report of a bird tangled in fishing line at Dutchman's Landing. Officer Del Gandio and Officer Wright arrived on scene and found the bird stranded high in a tree.

Due to the bird's location, the Village of Catskill DPW assisted by providing a bucket truck, allowing workers to safely reach and rescue the bird. We are grateful for their quick response and valuable assistance.

Because the bird sustained an injury to its wing, it was transferred to the care of The Friends of the Feathered and Furry Wildlife Center for evaluation and rehabilitation.

Thank you to everyone involved for helping ensure this wildlife rescue had a positive outcome.

******Parking Restrictions********
On Sunday, June 21st, 2026, there will be No Parking allowed on Main St from 2pm until 9pm for the Summer Solstice Festivities. No vehicles will be allowed to enter or exit the Municipal Lot at Willard Alley during this time as well. Any resident that needs to use the Municipal Lot instead of Main St should be aware that their vehicle cannot be removed until Main St. is re-opened. Should you have to leave during the above times, you will have to find parking on nearby side streets to get out. There is a message board at the top of Main St, and the meters will be bagged and posted during the evening on June 19th. Any questions please call the station at 518-943-2244.

With the hot weather we're experiencing, Officer Palmer stopped by Dutchman’s Landing to hand out ice pops to the kids and help everyone stay cool.

A big thank you to Officer Palmer for making a positive impact in the community and bringing some smiles to local families.

As temperatures remain high, remember to stay hydrated, take breaks in the shade, and check in on friends, family, and neighbors.

Police Activity Near Catskill Elementary School Determined to Pose No Public Threat

Catskill, NY — June 3, 2026 — On today's date, the Catskill Police Department responded to a report of an unknown male subject who entered an apartment building located across from Catskill Elementary School.

Upon arrival, officers determined that the individual had left the location prior to their arrival. Although the incident occurred outside the Village of Catskill's jurisdiction, Catskill Police officers responded due to the nature of the information received and their proximity to the location. The investigation was subsequently turned over to the New York State Police.

Due to the police presence and activity in close proximity to the school, school officials made the decision to place Catskill Elementary School in lockdown as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff.

At this time, there is no evidence to suggest there was any threat to the public. No weapons were involved, and no threats were made in connection with this incident.

The individual involved has been identified; however, attempts to contact the subject have been unsuccessful at this time.

We would also like to commend the administration, faculty, and staff of Catskill Elementary School for their professionalism and commitment to student safety. Their prompt actions and adherence to established safety procedures helped ensure a safe and orderly environment throughout the incident.

We are also aware of rumors circulating within the community and wanted to provide accurate information to help address concerns while protecting the integrity of the ongoing investigation. We appreciate the public's patience and understanding.

The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, along with the Catskill Police Department, continue to actively investigate this incident.

On May 30th 2026, the boat launch at Dutchman's Landing will be closed from 12pm until 12am. There will be no parking of trucks with trailers in the park from 12pm until 12am, as well. Boaters are encouraged to use the Athens or Coxsackie boat launches instead.

Today, the members of the Catskill Police Department pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Their courage, selflessness, and dedication to protecting the freedoms we enjoy will never be forgotten. We are forever grateful to those who gave everything for others.

This Memorial Day, we ask our community to take a moment to reflect, remember, and honor our fallen heroes.

We remember them not just today, but always. 🇺🇸

Memorial Day Parade and Traffic Advisory

Tomorrow Monday, May 25, 2026, The Catskill Memorial Day Parade will step off at 1:30 P.M. Residents and motorists should expect delays and road closures in the following areas beginning around 1:15 P.M. until the parade concludes:

-West Bridge Street
-West Main Street
-Bridge Street
-Main Street
-Surrounding side streets

Please plan your travel accordingly and seek alternate routes where possible.

No Parking Notice:

No Parking signs will be posted on Main Street from Bridge Street to Bronson Street.

No parking will be permitted in this area starting at 9:00 A.M. on Monday, May 25th until the conclusion of the Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony.

Vehicles parked in violation of the No Parking signs may be towed.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we honor our fallen veterans. Please drive safely and give extra time if traveling through the Village tomorrow.
