For National Police K9 Day, we want to recognize one of the newest four-legged members of the Catskill Police Department!

Our newest four-legged recruit is an English Springer Spaniel who is currently training to become a therapy dog.

His academy curriculum has so far consisted of:

- Cuddling 101
- Advanced Tail Wagging
- Treat Detection
- Tactical Napping
- Belly Rub Endurance

We’re excited to watch him continue his training and eventually put those skills to work serving the members of our community.

P.S. He wanted us to mention that he is a big fan of stuffed squeaky toys. We’re not saying he’s accepting gifts… but we’re also not saying he isn’t.

The Catskill Police Benevolent Association is asking our community to come together in support of Albany Fire Department Battalion Chief Wayne Brennan, the father of one of our own members here at the Catskill Police Department, as well as the City of Albany DGS Supervisor who was also seriously injured in the same incident.

Chief Brennan is an exemplary firefighter who has dedicated more than 30 years of his life to serving and protecting the City of Albany. Both he and the DGS Supervisor suffered significant burn injuries following a recent explosion and now face long roads to recovery.

On Saturday, August 29th, from 2:00–6:00 PM at Fidens Brewing Company in Albany, the Albany Firefighters Cancer & Disability Foundation will host a fundraiser to benefit both Chief Brennan and the injured DGS Supervisor and their families.

For decades, these men have served their community. Now, their community has an opportunity to stand behind them.

We ask our friends, families, fellow first responders, and members of the Catskill community to consider supporting this cause. Whether you make a donation through the link below, share this post, or come out to the fundraiser, every bit of support can make a difference as these men and their families navigate the difficult road ahead.

This one hits especially close to home for us, and we hope our community will join the greater Capital Region and first responder community in showing these families that they do not face this fight alone.

They’ve spent their careers answering the call for others. Now it’s our turn to answer theirs.

⏰ 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM
📍 Fidens Brewing Company — 897 Broadway, Albany

Official Update: Village of Catskill Boil Water Advisory

Date: August 6, 2026

To: All Village of Catskill Water Users including Jefferson Heights, Leeds, and South Cairo.

Despite extensive testing and adjustments at our Water Treatment Plant this week, we have not yet been able to return facility operations to normal levels. High turbidity levels remain a challenge, meaning we have not yet advanced past Step 1 of our plant recovery process.

We are making progress, but we must maintain stable operation at Step 1 for a consecutive period before moving forward. Once stabilized, our team can begin flushing the system and conducting mandatory testing required by the Department of Health (DOH) to safely lift the advisory.

Thanks to Greene County Emergency Services, additional bottled water is available today after 4pm for residents At the Catskill Police Department on Main Street, Catskill. Limit One (1) case per family.

We understand how difficult and disruptive this situation is for our residents and business owners. Our plant operators are working around the clock to resolve the issue, and we will share new information as soon as it becomes available. Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation.

A sincere thank you to Temple Israel of Catskill for graciously opening your doors and allowing the Catskill Police Department to host today's C.R.A.S.E. (Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events) training.

CRASE is designed to provide civilians with practical, life-saving strategies to help them recognize potential threats, improve situational awareness, and understand how to respond during an active violence incident using the nationally recognized Avoid, Deny, Defend principles. While we hope these skills are never needed, being prepared can make all the difference in an emergency.

If your business, school, place of worship, or community organization is interested in hosting a FREE C.R.A.S.E. training, we encourage you to contact the Catskill Police Department by emailing Investigator Murray at [email protected]. We'd be happy to work with you to schedule a training tailored to your group!
