North Dakota Gov. Kelly Armstrong and Attorney General Drew Wrigley announced Monday a series of executive actions to ban kratom statewide, citing growing overdose deaths and the drug’s lack of regulation in the state.

The temporary ban will go into affect on Wednesday, August 5th at 5pm, which will prohibit the sale, use, and possession of the substance. Permanent regulations and enforcement measures will be determined when the legislature gathers for the special session on September 2nd.

Consumers who believe they may be addicted to kratom, 7-OH, or other kratom derivatives and are concerned about recovery or withdrawal from the drugs may call or text the DHHS crisis lifeline at 988 or the information and referral helpline at 211.
