Now for OHV (Off Highway Vehicles) operation info:
Class 1 = Dirtbikes
Class 2 = 4 wheelers
Class 3 = Side by Sides
MAY NOT operate Class 1 (dirtbike) or Class 2 (4 wheeler) in town as per City Ordinance. Simple as that. Exemption is given to get gas and drive directly out of town, but you MUST have a FULL DRIVERS license/Motorcycle endorsement. NO PASSENGERS ALLOWED.
MAY operate a Class 3 (side by side) in town but MUST have a FULL DRIVERS LICENSE or PERMIT with a qualified (18 or older w/3 yrs experience) licensed driver in the seat immediately next to the permitted driver.
Any Class 3 DRIVER or PASSENGER under 18 MUST wear helmets IN ADDITION TO SEATBELTS because they are under OHV law, not passenger vehicle law so helmets are required too. Number of occupants may NOT exceed the number of seats on the vehicle.
SAFETY CERTIFICATES ARE NOT RECOGNIZED IN TOWN!
All motor vehicles must be registered and insured to operate on a roadway.
PARENTS: It is NOT ok to allow your unlicensed drivers to operate OHVs in town so please to not instruct them that it is. DO NOT send your unlicensed kids to Driver's Education class in OHVs.
GOLF CARTS - Different category all together. Golf carts are now allowed to be operated in town, ONLY by fully licensed drivers. NO NIGHT OPERATION EVEN WITH LIGHTS. Helmet and seatbelt laws do not apply to golf carts, but seatbelt law DOES apply to the low speed vehicles such as GEM cars. One passenger per seat space.
I know it can be confusing but basically if you do not have a license, you can't drive motor vehicles in town, with exception of scooters, and if you are under 18 you must be properly restrained and helmeted. If you have questions, feel free to call 701 265-8600 for clarification.
Thank you for your cooperation.
