Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area offers over twelve miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.

The newest addition to Maricopa County's Regional Parks System, the conservation area encompasses 2,154 acres of diverse, rugged upland Sonoran Desert. The north Valley location contains fascinating archaeological sites and lush riparian areas along Cave Creek, which flows throughout the winter and spring months. Remnants of early mining and ranching, from which the park gets its name, are still a

pparent in the park. This area is a must see for all wildflower lovers in the spring. The abundant vegetation present in the conservation area provides a rich habitat for a diverse assemblage of wildlife.

Join us on January 9, 2026, as Maricopa County Parks Department and the Town of Cave Creek celebrate 25 years of the Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area!

The celebration kicks off at 10 a.m. at the north end of the park’s main parking area with presentations from state, county, and community leaders. Explore activity booths and be part of the dedication of a new plaque honoring the park’s 25th anniversary. Park entry fees will be waived for this very special day. Check the park website to see a listing of various guided hikes and programs to take place throughout the weekend.

Celebrate the magic of the holiday season with a self-guided Luminaria Walk through the stunning Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area. As twilight falls, the trail will be softly illuminated by glowing luminarias, creating an enchanting ambiance perfect for quiet reflection and festive cheer.
The walk spans approximately 1.5 miles on the Spur Cross Trail, featuring gentle elevation changes and some rocky terrain—be sure to wear sturdy shoes and dress appropriately for an outdoor evening adventure. Wander at your own pace along the softly lit path, immersing yourself in the desert’s peaceful beauty. For added visibility, bring a flashlight, but please avoid headlamps to maintain the tranquil experience for all walkers. We look forward to welcoming you to this special evening celebration!

Admission is $3 for adults, payable by cash, Maricopa County annual passes, or Cave Creek resident cards at the entry station. Children under 15 are admitted free.
