A few more good people at the table.

We're looking for neighbors to join our volunteer Board of Directors — about 2–4 hours a month. You don't need a science background. If you care about this place and you're willing to show up, we can teach you the rest.

Kevin's got the full story in this Wednesday's Illinois Valley News. Call 541-592-3731 or email [email protected].

Companion planting is the practice of placing different plant species close together for their mutual benefit. For example, the bright and cheerful nasturtium (which is incredibly easy to grow from seed) is a great friend to food plants like tomatoes, brassicas, squash and potatoes. Nasturtiums draw pests like aphids and squash bugs away from your vegetables while attracting beneficial insects and pollinators.

Next spring, plant them outside after the last frost. They like full sun (6-8 hours), they're drought tolerant, and they come in a variety of happy little colors. If you've never grown them before, take a look around your garden now and plan out where to tuck a few seeds when next year's garden starts to wake up.
