The Illinois Valley Fire District and the ODF Southwest Oregon District initiated a response following reports of smoke in the vicinity.

Responding units confirmed a 0.01-acre fire, which has since been extinguished. The ODF is currently conducting an investigation in coordination with the Bureau of Land Management.

Before the winter chill sets in, make sure your home's heating equipment and appliances are properly inspected and serviced. Poorly vented or malfunctioning equipment can cause sudden illness or death, but annual maintenance helps prevent dangerous leaks.

Make sure your home is protected:

✅Test every carbon monoxide alarm monthly and check its replacement date.
✅Ensure alarms are installed on every level where bedrooms are located and near every sleeping area.
✅Know what to do if an alarm sounds: go outside immediately into fresh air, call 911 from outside, and stay out until emergency responders say it's safe to return.

October 19, 2026, 13:51:40; TA2 - Traffic Accident; 213 S. Redwood Hwy, Cave Junction.

The Illinois Valley Fire District, AMR-Josephine County, and the Josephine County Sheriff's Office responded to a rear-end collision earlier today.

Upon arrival, both vehicles involved in the rear-end accident were located in the parking lot. One individual from the impacted vehicle was transported by AMR as a precautionary measure.

The Sheriff’s Office has assumed responsibility for the investigation.

The Illinois Valley Fire District and ODF Southwest Oregon District responded to a small, approximately 20x20 grass fire.

The fire has been extinguished, and ODF will initiate an investigation.

October 16, 2026, 00:50:30; Vegetation Fire; Tarter Gulch, Cave Junction.

Illinois Valley Fire District responded to a slow-moving vegetation fire involving approximately 1¾ acres, reportedly caused by a burned-out vehicle. ODF Southwest Oregon District was requested to provide support.

Crews worked throughout the night and continued suppression efforts through Friday to extinguish the fire and ensure no hot spots remained.

October 15, 2026, 14:39:32; Vegetation Fire; 34xx Crooks Creek Rd, Selma.

The Illinois Valley Fire District and ODF Southwest Oregon District responded to a vegetation fire measuring less than 0.01 acres earlier this afternoon.

The fire has been extinguished and is currently under investigation by ODF.

October 15, 2026, 12:37:32; TA1 – Traffic Accident; Intersection of Rockydale Road and Waldo Road, Cave Junction.

The Illinois Valley Fire District, the Josephine County Sheriff's Office, and AMR-Josephine County responded to a single-vehicle incident.

Upon arrival, units identified a vehicle overturned off the roadway and positioned within the marsh.

IVFD successfully extricated the occupant, and AMR stabilized the patient for transport with non-life-threatening injuries.

The scene was transitioned to the Sheriff’s Department, which subsequently requested recovery services from Jerry's Towing.

The Illinois Valley Fire District and ODF Southwest Oregon District responded to a 0.10-acre fire; a containment line has been established and forward progression has been stopped.

The ODF will be conducting the investigation.
