Illinois Valley Fire District Explorer post 8900

Illinois Valley Fire District Explorer post 8900 IVFD Explorer program is for both boys and Girls Ages 11 to 18. Explorers helps youth to learn Fire Fighter Skills in a safe environment.

Youth are guided in learning skills by Certified Fire Fighters. Meeting are the 1st and 3rd Friday's of each month.

Prussick Rope Climb

We are awaiting results for this but at the time Shadow Smith did his climb he had one of the fastest times of 53 seconds, possibly only being beat out by a kid at 44 seconds.

The King Drill was developed to teach fire attack and primary search techniques, enabling a team of four to demonstrate effective teamwork in a high-stress situation.

The King Drill was dedicated in honor of Sgt. Chris King who died after battling cancer by the Cherokee County Fire Department from Georgia before the days events began.

Our team Captain, Clara Gavlik was honored by being given a challenge coin because she remained calm and communicative to all her team, and the teamwork that each of her team members contributed into this drill. She was told that this was the intended purpose that Sgt. Chris King was trying to achieve with this particular challenge prop.

This last weekend, Four of our Illinois Valley Fire Explorers went back to Gatlinburg, TN to compete at BSA WinterFest with 1,350 other attendees from 17 States and 42 other councils!
