After 19 years of dedicated service, Assistant Chief John Zook is stepping into reserve status with the Cave Spring Volunteer Fire Department. A reserve member can still participate in the department operations, run calls, and assist in committees, however, does not have a duty requirement.
Chief Zook joined our department in 2007 with one simple goal, to give back to the community he calls home. Over the years, that desire to serve grew into an extraordinary legacy of leadership, mentorship, and selfless commitment.
Throughout his time in our family, Chief Zook has responded to countless emergencies, served in nearly every capacity within the department, and helped lead Cave Spring through some of its most challenging incidents.
Whether serving as a firefighter, Captain, or Assistant Chief, he has always been a steady, knowledgeable, and respected leader. His dedication to training, passion for the fire service, and willingness to share his knowledge have helped shape countless firefighters and officers who continue to carry those lessons forward today.
Beyond the emergency calls and leadership positions, Chief Zook helped build something even more meaningful, a family. He has always believed that the relationships formed at the firehouse last a lifetime, and he has played a tremendous role in creating the culture of camaraderie, professionalism, and service that defines Cave Spring Volunteer Fire Department.
While this marks the end of his time in an active leadership role, it is by no means the end of his impact. His influence will continue to be seen in the firefighters he mentored, the leaders he developed, and the department he helped strengthen over nearly two decades.
Chief Zook, thank you for your unwavering dedication to this department, the Cave Spring community, and the countless members who have had the privilege of serving alongside you. Your service, leadership, and friendship have left an immeasurable mark on our organization.
