Cave Spring Fire and Rescue responded to a reported hay baler and grass fire this weekend

Upon arrival, units found a Hay Baler on fire, with the fire spreading into the surrounding field, and possible structure.

Crews were able to quickly contain the fire to the field and extinguish the fire involving the farm equipment. Crews conducted overhaul and mop-up operations, and all hot spots were extinguished.

All units cleared and returned to service.

HAVE YOU EVER WONDERED WHAT IT COSTS TO OUTFIT A FIREFIGHTER AND PUT A FIRE TRUCK ON THE ROAD TODAY?

When you see a firefighter responding to an emergency, you see the person answering the call. What you may not see is the tremendous investment in protective equipment, communications, tools, and apparatus required to get that firefighter there, and bring them home safely.

From turnout gear, helmets, boots, gloves, radios, and SCBA, the cost of properly equipping just one firefighter can reach tens of thousands of dollars.

Then there are the fire trucks. The cost of new fire apparatus has risen dramatically in recent years. Depending on the type, manufacturer, and specifications, replacing a modern fire engine can easily approach or exceed $1 million, before adding much of the specialized equipment needed to place it into service.

So when answering that call, there is protective equipment that must keep them safe, tools that must perform when seconds count, and an apparatus that must reliably get them to your emergency.

This week marks a historic milestone for our City of Cave Spring, as we celebrate the opening of our new State Charter School!

The Cave Spring Fire Department was honored to be invited to be part of this special day and witness the beginning of an exciting new chapter for our community. We are proud to stand alongside our students, educators, families, and community leaders as we welcome this incredible addition to our city.

No matter your age, rank, or years of service, you should never stop learning.
Every firefighter, from the newest recruit to the most seasoned veteran, has an opportunity to grow, improve, and become better than they were yesterday. We owe that commitment not only to our department, but to the community we proudly serve and to our families who expect us to come home safely after every call.

That's why firefighters from across Georgia make the trip to the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC). We come to sharpen our skills, learn from experienced instructors, network with firefighters from every corner of the state, and bring that knowledge back to our own departments.

Training doesn't end after Firefighter I. It is a lifelong commitment.

Never pass up an opportunity to improve yourself. Every class you attend, every skill you practice, and every lesson you learn could make the difference on someone's worst day.

Train hard. Stay humble. Keep learning.

Saturday Morning Training at Cave Spring Fire and Rescue 🚒

Training never stops at the CSFD. This morning, our members spent time reviewing ground ladder operations, focusing on the proper deployment and use of ladders in a variety of emergency situations. From selecting the right ladder for the job to safe placement and deployment techniques, every evolution helps ensure we're ready when our community needs us most.

Regular training like this keeps our firefighters sharp, and builds teamwork. We're proud of the dedication our members continue to show by giving up part of their Saturday to improve their knowledge and abilities.
