In the 1880’s the Cosmopolitan Hotel was open to travelers and there may have been other hotels, but this one may have been one of the first. When farmers brought their dairy goods to ship out on “Butter Day” many needed a place to stay overnight for their long wagon trip home.

On the corner of E Street and ocean stood the old St. Joseph’s Catholic Church that burned down in 1970. The photo was taken in 1926 and a local artist Mrs. RL Newton painted the second picture in 1970.

Standing room only September 17th at the Cayucos History Night l, kicking off the events during the Endless Summer Weekend. The newly renovated “Vet’s Hall” was a beautiful venue to listen to Stuart McDowell tell the story of the attack of an oil tanker right off the coast on December 22, 1941. Many people are not aware that Japanese submarines were stalking the waters along our Pacific coastline in search of fuel tankers to destroy. If you want to know the rest of the story you should get the book!!!

Virgil and Jewel Ambrosia opened Ambrosia’s Variety Store in the 1950’s (?) They had one son, Andy and we were gifted a tub full of their family photos and memorabilia. Andy grew up, played and went all through school in Cayucos. Ambrosia’s was a very popular store and the Ambrosia’s were both honored as “Citizen of the Year”
