This afternoon at 1737 CHFD was dispatched on an automatic mutual aid assignment for a reported apartment fire in the Village of Lansing. Quint 231 and Engines 203 and 202 responded. Quint 231 was the first arriving suppression apparatus, and firefighters from 231’s crew quickly stretched a hoseline for fire attack and deployed the aerial ladder for ventilation.

CHFD firefighters on scene contributed to fire attack, ventilation, and search efforts alongside firefighters from Lansing Fire Department and Ithaca Fire Department.

The fire was brought under control and all CHFD units are back in service. We are proud to assist our mutual aid partners.

Yesterday at 1930 CHFD was requested mutual aid to the Town of Lansing for a reported structure fire. CHFD Engine 203, Engine 202, Ladder 231, and Car 262 responded.

Engine 203 arrived on scene and assumed the attack position, flowing water to handlines for fire suppression. The remaining CHFD units assisted LFD with other fireground tasks. This was the second first-due working structure fire for E203 in the last two weeks.

No injuries have been reported. We are proud to assist our mutual aid partners.

We had a busy and productive weekend at the Cayuga Heights Fire Department. On Saturday, we conducted our annual OSHA refresher training with 40 members in attendance. Following OSHA training, we held a CPR refresher for 10 members to ensure their certifications remain current.

With an impending storm expected Saturday night into Sunday, many members who do not normally bunk elected to remain at the station for the duration of the storm. While some good football was enjoyed, the crews remained ready to respond as needed throughout the weather event.

We would also like to thank the Cayuga Heights Village Department of Public Works for their support and availability should we have needed assistance with snow removal to reach calls.

Well done, all hands.

Please help us help you! If you have a hydrant in front of your house please clear the snow away from it! Thank you

Earlier today a group of CHFD firefighters and officers participated in a joint live-fire training hosted by the Lansing Fire Department and Meridian Fire Training with a number of other departments from eastern Tompkins County.

This was a great opportunity to train with our mutual aid partners and refresh on critical fireground skills. Training like this is critical to the successful ex*****on of our mission to protect life and property.
