Alumni Update: We’re proud to see NVHS graduate Colby West continuing to achieve great things. Congratulations on earning your MSAT degree, Colby!

This week we are celebrating our newest grads, MSAT Class of 2026! Next up is Colby West.

Colby is from Cayuga - he attended North Vermillion High School. Colby also attended Franklin College for his bachelor's degree. Below are a few fun questions we asked Colby:

What is something that helped you through grad school?
- Going to the gym and taking my dog for walks. The gym gave me a way to relieve stress and stay motivated while walks with my dog helped me clear my mind and recharge after long days.

What is something you wanted to be growing up?
- An astronaut

Most memorable moment in the MSAT program?
- The laughs I shared with my classmates and professors. No matter what the situation was we always seemed to find a way to lighten the situation and make it positive.

🎓 Congratulations to Lane Thomann, Salutatorian of the North Vermillion High School Class of 2026!

Lane Thomann is the son of Brandon and Molly Thomann. Throughout high school, he has demonstrated dedication in academics, leadership, athletics, and service. Lane serves as Student Council President, is a member of the National Honor Society, and was named a finalist for the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship. He was also accepted into the Indiana State University Honors Program.

Lane has been actively involved in basketball and track, earning All-Sectional honors in basketball, All-Conference honors in track, and being named Most Valuable Runner. In addition to athletics, he has dedicated significant time to 4-H leadership, music performance, church involvement, and community service.

Lane plans to pursue a career in Construction Management at Indiana State University.

🎓 Congratulations to Corbin Bush, Valedictorian of the North Vermillion High School Class of 2026!

Corbin Jay Bush is the son of Justin and Billie Bush. During high school he has spent time serving as President of the Junior Commissioners program and Senior Class President. He has participated in band for six years, playing saxophone, and founded the school’s jazz band, where he performed for two years.

This fall, Corbin will attend the Honors College at Indiana State University for English, where he has been awarded a full tuition scholarship. He plans to continue his education at University of Chicago Law School to pursue a law degree.

We’re incredibly proud of Corbin and all he has accomplished!

For 37 years, WTHI-TV has been honoring five outstanding educators with Golden Apple Awards. These awards are presented to teachers who go above and beyond in the classroom.

NVHS celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week with a week full of dress-up days, snack carts, walking tacos, snack bars, thank-you notes from students, drinks, popsicles, movies, and more!

It was a small way to show appreciation for the people who show up every day, pour into our students, and help make NVHS what it is.

Thank you to our teachers for all you do. You are appreciated!

We are sad to see our students from the WRCTE Veterinary Science program go! For the past school year Kera, Cadence, Cassie and Darby have been invaluable at the shelter.

Here is just a brief overview of what they did for us: helped with intake, nail trims, cleaned ears, cleaned kennels, socialized with the animals, bathed animals before events, helped with paperwork and walked dogs. They also helped with animal restraint when vaccines were being given.

All of these will be vaulable skills if they continue on into any part of the veterinary medicine field. We wish them luck as they journey on with their studies.
