Cayuga Fire Department To protect and serve the citizens of the Village of Cayuga and surrounding areas.

The Cayuga Fire Department is a small, rural volunteer fire department located in the Finger Lakes Region of Central New York. Our department provides fire protection service to the Village of Cayuga, as well as a BLS Ambulance for EMS and a boat for water rescues on Cayuga Lake. With manpower shortages in most volunteer fire departments,mutual aid and good working relationships are more imperativ

e now then ever before. Our department is regularly called out to our neighboring towns in Cayuga and Seneca Counties to assist their fire departments.

Monday training: Tonight, we were invited to Aurelius Fire Department’s West Station for Part 1 of an auto extrication drill. Crews were familiarized with tools and techniques. Part 2 will be held next Monday night. 6 CFD members participated. Thanks AFD for having us!

Throwback Thursday: Today, we feature the third of 19 men who have served as Fire Chief for the Village of Cayuga.
Chief Harvey L. Tavener (1947-1948).
Harvey served for many years in CFD, along with his father (George), brother (Don), and cousins (Ernie and Herman).
He passed away in 1989 and is missed by all of us.

Pete was active as a Fire Police Officer with us until his passing in December of 1984. He is missed by all of us.

CFD members Steve Orchard and Jeff Day attended a Lithium-Ion battery fire suppression demonstration at the Cayuga County Training Tower sponsored by FCL-X and Dival, held on 5/27/2026 at 1800 hours. Other agencies present were Auburn, Genoa, Port Byron, Sennett and County EMO.

Thank you to all who supported us at this morning’s Chicken BBQ fundraiser. We were sold out before 1pm.
Also, a huge thanks to the Cayuga Ridge Runners Hunting Club for the use of their facility (where the chicken and potatoes were prepared) and assistance with all the cooking.

First Chief: Henry J. Casler (1943-1946)
Chief Casler passed away in 1976.
He is missed by all of us.
