Good afternoon, North Vermillion Elementary families. With the possibility for rain again tomorrow, we're going to go ahead and move the 4th through 6th grade intermediate Olympics to the morning as well. This event will now begin at 9:00 a.m. at the high school football field. Students will once again be able to enjoy Kona ice later in the afternoon if you so choose to send them.
Again, our 4th through 6th grade intermediate Olympics will be moved to 9:00 AM at the high school football field tomorrow, Tuesday, May 19th. Thank you again for your flexibility, and we look forward to seeing you tomorrow morning.

Good evening, North Vermillion Elementary families.

We have been monitoring the weather forecast for tomorrow’s 1st-3rd grade Olympics event. In order to avoid the possibility of needing to cancel due to expected rain later in the day, we have decided to move the Primary Olympics to the morning instead of the afternoon. The event will now begin at 9:00 a.m. at the high school football field.

Students will still be able to enjoy Kona Ice later in the afternoon at the elementary school.

At this time, the Intermediate Olympics are still scheduled to take place on Tuesday, May 19th beginning at 1:00 p.m. If weather conditions require any changes for that event, we will communicate those updates as soon as possible.

Again, tomorrow's Primary Olympics will now start at 9:00 a.m. at the high school football field.

Thank you for your flexibility and support. We are looking forward to a great event for our students.

🚔ELECTIVE SPOTLIGHT🚔

🚨The School Resource Officer (SRO) Elective at NVES provided students with an engaging, hands-on introduction to the world of first responders and the criminal justice system.

🚨The course featured visits from the Cayuga Fire Department and the Indiana State Police, giving students direct insight into emergency response roles and responsibilities.

🚨Throughout the elective, students participated in a mock “Criminal Mischief” investigation, led by Deputy John Hawkins and assisted by Sergeant Mike Strader, where they learned and applied key investigative principles. Instruction included the stages of an investigation, proper techniques for interviewing victims and suspects, evidence identification and collection, crime scene preservation, and basic report writing.

🚨To further enhance real-world understanding, Vermillion County Prosecutor Bruce Aukerman spoke with students about probable cause and how law enforcement prepares cases for prosecution.

🚨Additionally, Judge Chris Wrede provided an overview of courtroom operations, explaining the legal process and what happens during court proceedings.

🚨This elective offered students a unique opportunity to explore careers in public safety while developing critical thinking, responsibility, and problem-solving skills in a practical, real-world context.
