***Tomorrow Night at Meier's Creek Brewing Company***

In commemoration of America’s 250th Anniversary Lorenzo State Historic Site is sponsoring a free Speaker Series featuring highly regarded historians, archaeologists, and authors specializing in the Revolutionary War Era.

Please join us Thursday, September 3, 2026 at 5PM as we welcome Graham Hodges for his presentation “The Black American Revolution: African American Freedom Choices”. This talk will cover the choices that Patriot and Loyalist Black Americans made during the American Revolution. A sizable number of Black Americans sided with the British forces, serving as soldiers, spites, sailors and servants. Ultimately thousands chose exile in a Spirit of 1783, leaving from New York City, Charleston, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia for a mixed freedom in the British empire. At least five thousand Blacks served the American army, showing honor and courage in key battles. This lecture will discuss why Black Americans made their choices and the eventual outcome of such major alliances.

Graham Russell Gao Hodges is the George Dorland Langdon, Jr. Professor of History and Africana Studies at Colgate University. He is the author of over ten books including the forthcoming biography: Henry Highland Garnet: A Passion for the Freedom-Idea (Yale University Press, 2027).
The series will be hosted at Meier’s Creek Cazenovia Farm Brewery on the first Thursday of the month from May through November. The series will also be live streamed from our page for those who are unable to make it in person. This series is made possible by funding from the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, and the partnership and support of the Friends of Lorenzo and Meier’s Creek Brewing Company.

On Thursday, July 3, 2026 at 5PM we welcomed Philip Levy for his presentation “Three Centuries of Washington's Childhood Home”. Philip Levy is a Professor of History at the University of South Florida. His work sits at the intersection of history, historical archaeology, landscape, memory, and public history. Professor Levy’s presentation was a truly insightful examination of the public historian’s navigation between history and memory.
