Congratulations to Cazenovia High School varsity coaches, Lorraine Scheftic and Caitlin Byrne, who were each recognized by Section III, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. Coach Scheftic and Coach Byrne were awarded 2026 Section III Service Awards.

Coach Scheftic was presented by Section III Executive Director, Jason Czarny, for her dedicated work to the section coordinating event ticketing and awards, stepping in to a few temporary roles at the Section Office as needed, becoming the OHSL League Secretary, serving on the Section III Officiating Committee, and for being an excellent varsity state and sectional champion career coach at Cazenovia.

Coach Byrne was presented by Cazenovia Coordinator of Athletics, Mike Byrnes. She was awarded for her 13 years of service on the Girls Section III Lacrosse Committee, and the last 11 years as its chairperson. Coach Byrne has dedicated her time and talents to the coaches and teams of Section III during this time, helping to coordinate and execute postseason play in the Section, and coordinate state regionals when home in Section III, all the while working hard at Cazenovia, coaching the girls varsity lacrosse team. The 2026 team earned Cazenovia's 1st league title in the sport!

Both Scheftic and Byrne were nominated by Section III leadership, which is a testament to their hard work and results being recognized by those from Section III.

Introducing the New Middle School Principal and New School Business Official

On May 12th, Superintendent, Kevin Linck announced that "we have officially appointed two exceptional professionals to join our district starting this July: our new School Business Official (SBO), Steven Montemarano, and our new Middle School Principal, Erin Robertson."

Mr. Linck shared that, "Finding the right fit for these roles was an important responsibility. To ensure these leaders aligned with our community's values, we conducted a thorough search process that included multiple rounds of interviews. We are grateful to the diverse group of stakeholders who served on our interview committees, including students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration. Their feedback was instrumental in our decision-making process."

Below are introductions of Mrs. Robertson and Mr. Montemarano:

Cazenovia Central School District Welcomes Erin Robertson as the New Principal of Cazenovia Middle School

Mrs. Robertson brings 16 years of experience in education, having served as a classroom teacher, STEM instructional coach, and school leader. Throughout her career, she has been committed to building strong relationships, maintaining high expectations, and creating learning environments where every student is known, challenged, and supported. She looks forward to partnering with students, families, and staff while building on Cazenovia Middle School's strong tradition of excellence.

Mrs. Robertson earned bachelor's degrees in biology and elementary education from Hofstra University, a master's degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from Syracuse University. Her experiences have shaped a leadership philosophy centered on supporting teachers, fostering collaboration, and ensuring that all students have the opportunity to succeed.

Outside of school, Mrs. Robertson lives in Fayetteville with her family and their dog, Acadia. She enjoys hiking, biking, and reading. She is excited to become part of the Cazenovia community and looks forward to a wonderful school year with the students, families, and staff of Cazenovia Middle School.

Cazenovia Central School District Welcomes Steven Montemarano as our New School Business Official

Steven Montemarano is honored to join the Cazenovia Central School District as the new School Business Official. His primary goal is to ensure the district provides top-tier services and resources so students receive an exceptional education that fully prepares them for life after graduation.

Steven has always had a deep passion for learning—a value instilled in him by his grandfather at an early age. This passion drove his academic journey, leading to a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and an Administrative certification from the University of Rochester, a Master’s in Mathematics Education and a School Business Official (SBO) certification from SUNY Brockport, a Graduate Certificate in Statistics with Regression Models from Colorado State University, and an MBA from SUNY Oswego.

He began his career in the classroom as a high school math teacher before expanding his impact as an instructional coach, a math consultant through the University of Rochester, and a school administrator specializing in math and science. In those roles, he had the privilege of working closely across all areas of education, including elementary classrooms, physical education, counseling, and health. Most recently, Steven served as the Director of BOCES 4 Science, where he managed the business and operational sides of a program that delivers vital K–5 science kits to approximately 120 school districts across the state.

Education and leadership are truly family affairs in the Montemarano household. His wife has dedicated her career to elementary education, transitioning from a classroom teacher and reading specialist to an instructional coach, and she now serves as an elementary school principal. Their daughter recently graduated from high school and is heading to SUNY Buffalo this fall to study accounting and finance.

In his spare time, Steven enjoys reading (mostly nonfiction books on science, math, history, or sports) and working out. He is an avid CrossFitter—having been a CrossFit athlete since 2021 and served as a CrossFit coach since 2023.

Steven is grateful for the warm welcome and the incredible opportunity to serve the Cazenovia community.
