🔥 KNOW THE BASICS OF FIRE

The air we breathe contains about 21% oxygen. But a fire doesn’t necessarily need the full 21% to keep burning—some materials can continue to burn at oxygen concentrations around 16% or even lower, depending on the fuel and conditions.

🔥 THE FIRE TETRAHEDRON
Fire requires four components:
• Heat — energy needed for ignition
• Fuel — something capable of burning
• Oxygen — supports combustion
• Chemical chain reaction — sustains the burning process

Remove any one of these, and combustion can be interrupted.

Search and rescue training is in the books for tonight at the live fire facility in Richlands! Crews put in serious work fully suited up in turnout gear and SCBA—and we're happy to report that "Princess" was safely rescued. Huge shoutout to our junior members who showed up and grinded hard all evening! 👑🚒

​A special thanks to Chief Lockhart, who got a little carried away with the charged hose line... honestly, it was pretty refreshing in all that gear. 💦

​The Cedar Bluff Fire Department is honored and excited to participate in the Tazewell County Airport Authority Open House!

​The festivities kick off at 12:00 PM (Noon), and there is truly something for everyone:
✈️ Airplane rides
🎶 Live music
🍔 Delicious food trucks
🎬 Movie screening to top off the night!

​The crew from Cedar Bluff Fire Department—along with everyone’s favorite dalmatian, Sparky the Fire Dog—stopped by Cedar Bluff Elementary this morning to welcome back students, teachers, and staff!

​Sparky was doing what he does best: high-fiving, giving out big waves, and making sure everyone started their year off with a big smile! 🐶❤️

​Last night, our crew was out working hard to keep our skills sharp and ready for any emergency!

​Training focused on maximizing our water flow and air support capabilities, including:

​💦 Engine Deck Gun Operations: Practicing high-volume master streams to handle large-scale structure fires quickly and effectively.
​🌊 Ground Monitor Deployment: Setting up and securing portable master streams for heavy fire knockdowns and extended defense operations.
​🚁 Drone (UAV) Operations: Utilizing aerial thermal imaging and reconnaissance to monitor fire conditions, track heat signatures, and improve scene safety for our ground crews.

​❤️ A Special Visit:
To make the night even better, our amazing "Station Mom" dropped by to pay a visit and check in on the team! Having that kind of support behind the scenes means the world to our crew and keeps station morale high.

​Continuous training allows us to stay prepared, adapt to new technologies, and protect Cedar Bluff and surrounding areas as efficiently as possible. A huge thank you to everyone who came out to put in the work!

🚒 Splash into Safety at Mountain Kids Inc.! 🌊

​We had an absolute blast spending Tuesday, July 21st, with our amazing friends, staff, and kids at Mountain Kids Inc. in Pounding Mill! It was another fantastic afternoon dedicated to learning all about fire and water safety.

​To wrap up the day, we put on a live water rescue demonstration featuring an "overturned" canoe and a victim—and a rescue brilliantly performed by our very own Lt. Josh Salyers! 🛶💥

​Thank you to Mountain Kids Inc. for having us out! We love keeping our community safe and informed (and having a little fun while doing it).

​P.S. No actual Lieutenants were harmed during the making of this demo! 😉

🚨 NEW EQUIPMENT ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨

​The Cedar Bluff Fire Department is excited to announce a major upgrade to our response capabilities! We have officially added an Autel Enterprise Drone to our operational toolkit. 🛸🚒

​This advanced technology will be a game-changer for our community in several key ways:

​🔥 Fire ground Operations: Gives incident commanders a real-time, aerial thermal view of structure fires—helping us spot hidden hotspots, monitor roof integrity, and track fire progression safely from the ground.

​🔍 Search & Rescue (SAR): Equipped with high-resolution thermal imaging and powerful zoom capabilities, this drone allows us to cover large, rugged areas quickly when searching for missing or injured individuals—day or night.

​🌊 Disaster Response & Size-Ups: Helps us assess high-water situations, hazardous materials incidents, and storm damage safely before sending firefighters into hazardous zones.

​Our operators are currently completing flight training to ensure we are ready to deploy at a moment's notice. We are constantly looking for ways to better serve and protect Cedar Bluff, and this new asset will help us do just that!

A Flood Watch has been issued for the entire forecast area. Repeated rounds of heavy rainfall will likely result in some scattered flash flooding, especially in urban and flood prone locations. The rain will persist into Wednesday evening for counties east of the Blue Ridge and their Flood Watch will last until July 22, 7 PM, as a result.
