We are proud to announce that Sergeant Zach Banz has successfully completed D.A.R.E. Mentor Training and has been selected to serve as the D.A.R.E. Mentor for the State of Utah's upcoming D.A.R.E. Officer Training programs beginning this year.

The D.A.R.E. Mentor program prepares experienced D.A.R.E. instructors to guide, coach, and evaluate new D.A.R.E. officers as they complete their certification training. Mentors play a critical role in ensuring new instructors are equipped with the skills, confidence, and teaching techniques necessary to effectively deliver the D.A.R.E. curriculum and positively impact youth in their communities.

House Fire Near North Main Street Under Investigation
5/24/2026

Cedar City, Utah — Emergency crews responded to a structure fire just after 12:30 p.m. today near 1027 North Main Street in Cedar City. Upon arrival, responders found one trailer home fully engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading and causing heavy damage to a neighboring residence.

Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fire and prevent further spread to nearby structures. Several vehicles and adjacent property also sustained damage as a result of the incident.

At this time, investigators believe there may be one deceased victim associated with the fire. Out of respect for the individual and their family, no identifying information will be released pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.

Two law enforcement officers were transported to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation as a precaution, and have since been released.

Multiple agencies assisted throughout the incident, including the Cedar City Fire Department, Gold Cross Ambulance, Enoch City Police Department, Iron County Sheriff's Office, Utah Highway Patrol, and Southern Utah University Police Department. Assisting agencies provided traffic control, scene security, medical response, and operational support during the emergency. We are grateful for the cooperation and patience shown by community members during the response and investigation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Utah State Fire Marshal.

School Threat Investigation Update

Today, the Cedar City Police Department responded to a reported threat involving Canyon View Middle School. The initial report was made to the school district office, which then notified law enforcement. As Both Canyon View Middle School and Canyon View High School are adjacent to each other both schools followed School district protocols.

Officers immediately responded and conducted thorough searches and safety checks at both schools. After completing our investigation and clearing the campuses, no evidence of a credible threat was found.

We understand situations like this can cause concern for students, parents, staff, and the community. We appreciate the cooperation of school personnel, students, parents, and responding agencies while we worked to ensure everyone’s safety.

Out of an abundance of caution, the school district elected to cancel all school activities for the remainder of the day.

We encourage the public to continue reporting suspicious activity, and we remind everyone that false reports place unnecessary strain on emergency resources and disrupt our schools and community.

We will continue working closely with the school district to maintain a safe environment for all students and staff.
