Iron County Sheriff's Office

Iron County Sheriff's Office The office of Sheriff is a constitutionally created office with duties prescribed by the Utah legislature.

The sheriff is the chief law enforcement officer for the county and is elected every four years. The sheriff has countywide jurisdiction, but in practice, mostly concentrates activities outside city limits where municipal officers cannot operate. The Sheriff has been charged with the responsibility to maintain the public peace and protecting life and property of all citizens of Iron County. Obliga

tions and responsibilities have continuously grown throughout the years. The duties of the Sheriff’s Office have increased as administrative procedures, court decisions, and requirements of the laws have brought about sophisticated and technical advancements to Law Enforcement. The Sheriff’s Office is comprised of several divisions which perform the varied duties required by Utah Law, the Criminal Justice System, and the public need.

DAY 2: Jr. Deputies went to SUU and learned about the aviation and mechanic programs. They then went to SUUPD and learned what the officers do on campus and about their awesome free tuition incentive program. They went on to learn about vehicle searches and got to put their skills to the test searching real cars with CCPD and UHP officers. Wildfire season is here. If you are in the areas listed, please be vigilant and take the necessary steps to prevent any fires from becoming out of control if you are within the "allowable" fire means. Be mindful that there are livestock, wild animals as well as residents who live in the wildfire areas full time and appreciate your cooperation to prevent disastrous fires, as do we. Below is more information on how you can become more educated on this and contact info if you have any questions and who to reach out to. Thank you for your help to keep our state safe and alive.

On this hallowed and sacred day, Sheriff Ken Carpenter was invited to be a guest speaker at the Memorial Day Service at the Southern Utah National Cemetery.

Sheriff Carpenter, a United States Marine Major (Retired), spoke on the gratitude of freedom. He spoke about the true heroes of our service members, the spouses. With the support of family, all things are possible and through them, the memories of our heroes are remembered forever.

Sheriff Carpenter has always been service first, and continues to serve his community in every way he can. This belief is carried in our motto “Tradition of Service”.

We thank him, and the other deputies that have served this great nation, and remember those that never made it home. If able, please take a moment of silence today in honor of those that made the ultimate sacrifice.

Thank you to all the agencies that came out and participated in our annual First Responders Open House. This year we were lucky enough to have it fall on the last day of National Police Week. It was great to have members of the public come and interact with our county's law enforcement and other first responder groups. Our Office is grateful to be able to work in such an amazing community that always shows up to support us.
