Merry Christmas!
“A Firehouse Christmas Eve”
It was Christmas Eve night,
And all through the station,
Every firefighter slept sound,
After a long, rough rotation.
The bunkroom was quiet,
Except for the snores,
And a few muffled laughs
Through the half-open doors.
The Captain had settled,
His helmet put away,
Hoping no tones would drop,
No calls before day.
But then came a sound,
From out in the bay,
He rose from his bed,
To see what it could say.
He crept past the lockers,
Boots silent on floor,
And there stood a stranger,
By the engine’s red door.
A jolly old man,
In a coat trimmed with white,
Gazing at the fire truck,
Tears glinting in the light.
The Captain approached him,
And gently spoke low,
“Are you all right, old timer?
What brings you in snow?”
The man turned around,
With eyes wet and red,
“I’m Santa,” he whispered,
And here’s what he said:
“I thought of your brothers,
Who’ve fallen this year,
Of the courage they carried,
And how they knew no fear.
“I saw the black helmets,
The soot on the gear,
And thought of those moments,
When help wasn’t near.
“I thought of the crashes,
And fires you face,
Of every life saved,
With honor and grace.
“I thought of the families,
Who wait through the night,
Praying their firefighter
Comes home all right.”
The Captain stood still,
As Santa wiped a tear,
His voice softly trembling,
Full of sorrow and cheer.
“How do you keep going?”
Asked Santa with pain,
The Captain replied,
“With heart — not for gain.”
Just then the tones blared,
A call through the air,
The Captain sighed,
“There’s someone out there.”
He shouted, “Gear up!”
And the crew hit the floor,
Sliding down poles,
Heading out once more.
Santa watched silently,
As the truck rolled away,
Its lights cut the darkness,
Turning night into day.
He whispered, “Thank you,”
To those brave and true,
“To every firefighter,
For all that you do.”
“May God keep you safe,
Wherever you roam,
Guide you and guard you,
Till you all make it home.”🚒🔥❤️...!
