We need your help, you can make a difference!
The Iowa Legislature recently released a bill that would cut UNI's funding.
These funds are used to run the university and provide financial aid to Iowa students.
Legislature currently funds a 50 million dollar Iowa Tuition Grant program, but these funds are only available to Iowa students who go to for-profit and private colleges and universities.
Students are being deprived of full access to funding. In a time when student debt is rising nationally, UNI students should be eligible to access this Tuition Grant program.
71% of UNI students from Iowa are in need of financial assistance and could benefit from these tuition grants.
Within a time that the education budget bill is moving very quickly, it is imperative that we make our voices heard as soon as possible.
Please help us take a stand by taking a moment to send a message to your state senator and state representatives!
Topic pointers for these conversations can include:
- Asking Legislators how they can cut financial support for Iowa students who go to UNI, which may lead to tuition increases, but fund financial aid packages for Iowa students who go to for-profit and private colleges and universities.
-Urging Legislators to allow UNI students from Iowa to access the Iowa Tuition Grant program. Reminding them that UNI students stay in Iowa and become Iowa taxpayers. 88% of UNI students come from Iowa and 92% of students from Iowa stayed in Iowa after graduating.
