As a librarian I'm quick to defend e-books, audiobooks, and any format that helps more people access and enjoy more books. And I love it when others share the love of all things books.
First, e-books. I don't see as many people disparaging them as audiobooks, but I do see some. Digital books are great because they allow folks to read books they might otherwise have trouble physically accessing.
E-books are also a great way to cut down on waste. And an amazing option for folks living in smaller spaces who simply do not have storage for all the wonderful books they'd like to read! Mini libraries on our devices are a great option for folks whose homes are smaller.
Audiobooks are amazing because they invite folks into the world of reading who otherwise would be left out. Beyond the obvious, blind folks and people with limited vision, audiobooks can be amazing for folks with print disabilities or other neurodivergences. They're an amazing way to make reading more inclusive.
Thank you, Bryan! For sending me this amazing infographic!
The picture is an infographic on a crumpled paper background. Text: Infographic What is a Real Book? Real is in red. The image is of a squareish Ven Diagram. The first circle is red and says hardcover and paperback books. The second circle is green and says e-books and e-audiobooks. The overlapping portion is brown and and says Young Adult Books, Children's books, Comic Books. The legend indicates that red is real books, brown is real books, and green is real books. On the side there's a purple purple stick person that is saying Pah! That's not a real book. Bottom right corner credits Tom Gauld
