At approximately 7:18 PM, the Cedar Grove Fire Department was dispatched for reports of smoke showing from a residence. Upon arrival, crews quickly determined they were operating at a working structure fire.

Firefighters stretched handlines, established a water supply, conducted searches, opened vertical ventilation holes, and performed extensive overhaul operations to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.

We would like to thank all of our mutual aid partners who assisted on scene and provided coverage for the Township during the incident.

Today, members of the Cedar Grove Fire Department gathered at our Firefighter Memorial for one of our most meaningful traditions, our annual Memorial Day service honoring the brave men and women who came before us.

Each year, we place flags in remembrance of our brothers who have passed, ensuring their dedication and sacrifice are never forgotten. This morning, we especially honored:

• Franklin Sekulic — Company 2, passed away during the current year
• Ernest Neuschaefer Sr. — Company 1, our department’s only Line of Duty Death in 1953
• The 343 firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001

Following the memorial service, members traveled to Cedar Grove Parkway to place a wreath in honor of our department members who served during World War II, remembering Lloyd Smith of Company 1 for his service and sacrifice.

Memorial Day is more than a holiday, it is a time to reflect, remember and honor those who gave so much for their community and country. Their legacy continues to live on through the traditions we carry forward every year.

We will never forget. 🇺🇸🚒

This past weekend, the Cedar Grove Fire Department provided mutual aid assistance at a large commercial fire in Belleville. Cedar Grove firefighters responded with an engine company and assisted with relay pumping operations, supplying a continuous water source to the tower ladder operating at the scene.

Mutual aid is a critical part of the fire service and highlights the strong partnerships between neighboring municipalities. When large incidents occur, departments work together seamlessly to provide the manpower, equipment, and support needed to protect lives and property.

We are always proud to answer the call and assist our neighboring communities whenever needed. Great work by all agencies involved during a challenging operation.

As always, if you are interested in joining a dedicated team of volunteers serving the community, please reach out or stop by one of our firehouses.

6 Calls. One Day. CGFD.

On April 30, 2026, the Cedar Grove Fire Department answered six calls for service, just another example of the dedication our volunteers bring to this community every single day.

One of the most serious incidents occurred at the intersection of Rt. 23 and E. Bradford Avenue, where firefighters responded to a motor vehicle crash with entrapment. Crews quickly assessed the scene and worked efficiently to safely extricate the occupants. Patients were then transported by ambulance to a local hospital for further evaluation.

Later in the day, units were dispatched to a reported dryer fire. The fire was quickly extinguished and the home was ventilated, preventing further damage.

To start our April Junior Firefighter Program we had some special visitors stop by. Town Manager Zichelli and Mayor Mega came out to show their support for these dedicated young individuals who are volunteering their time to serve the Cedar Grove community.

Their continued support for the Cedar Grove Fire Department is overwhelming, and we truly couldn’t do what we do without them. It means a great deal not only to our department, but especially to the junior firefighters who are stepping up and learning the importance of service, teamwork, and community.

As always, if you’re interested in joining our team, please reach out or stop by one of our firehouses. We’re always looking for motivated individuals who want to make a difference in their community.
