This morning I wrapped up the final requirement for graduation from the Texas Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas Leadership Command College with a presentation on my Leadership White Paper and research into “Armed Defenders in Texas Schools” followed by oral defense.

This 9-week program has been incredible. It has stretched my thinking, improved me as a leader, and equipped me to be a change agent. This journey has been a blessing to complete. Huge thank you to my wife, Stephanie, my team at Newman Academy Department of Public Safety, my boss, and the Invictus Martial Arts instructors. Without the support from them, this would not have been possible.

Three line of duty deaths. US Marshals and Police Officers were serving a warrant when the suspect opened fire shooting 7 officers killing 3 that were U.S. Marshal Deputies.

My thoughts and prayers are with all involved.

These police officers responded and provided mutual aid to APD and AISD in reference to the fatal shooting at Bowie HS yesterday. They worked well beyond their shift hours supporting search efforts of the campus and assisting with reunification activities of AISD student to their parents/guardians.

Police officers from the City of Grand Prairie, City of Mansfield, and Newman International Academy provided mutual aid to APD and AISD. Specifically, NIA DPS provided K9 support, which was utilized to search the campus for additional suspects.

The professionalism of our police officers was evident and recognized by our municipal policing partners. These police officers represented themselves, our team, and our school district well.

A police commendation is being issued to each of them for their commitment, dedication, and professionalism.

Solar Eclipse April 8, 2024 precautionary steps to take,

1. **Use proper eye protection**: The only safe way to look directly at the sun or a solar eclipse is through special-purpose solar filters, such as eclipse glasses or handheld solar viewers. Regular sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for viewing the sun.

2. **Check the authenticity of your eclipse glasses**: Make sure your eclipse glasses meet the ISO 12312-2 international safety standard for filters for direct viewing of the sun. Do not use glasses that are older than three years or have any scratches or damages.

PSA 2/22/24:
AT&T cellular software was hacked. Some AT&T and other cellular service customers are w/o service. This is suspected to be a targeted attack against first net services for first responders managed by AT&T.

9-1-1 services ARE still working; however, phones that are unable to utilized cellular service cannot call 9-1-1 unless connected to a WiFi network. Our police department radios are NOT impacted by this outage and ARE still working. Our backup communications systems are also still operating as designed.

If your cell phone reads SOS, switch to WiFi in phone setting to use cell phone. This will provide cell phone use while in proximity to accessible WiFi networks. We communicated this work around to our staff to ensure communication on campuses.
