Take A Knee

Throughout history when we “took a knee”...
and privately prayed to our God above
It was an act of reverence and devotion...
a simple act of respect and love.

But as with anything there is a time...
and a place for us to “take a knee”...
out of respect for those around us...
it wasn’t done for all to see.

When we pray...it’s a personal thing...
a simple hello to our God on high
taking others into account...
who don’t always see it like you and I.

So these protesters now who kneel to say...
that they are unhappy about their plight
are choosing the wrong time and place...
to convince the world that they are right.

Before each game when we stand to honor...
this wonderful country of freedoms and rights
for those few moments...just let us remember...
the men and women who bravely fight

To keep this country strong and free...
for those few moments let there be peace
The National Anthem represents freedom...
the freedom for all to think as they please.

The eighties made us stop and look...
at things we had always simply accepted...
we finally started demanding answers...
to things that seemed a little bit strange.

The nineties gave us a chance to rebuild...
the things the eighties had so affected
we had the chance to make things work...
so it was a time of growth and change.

But now we are into a new millennium...
we've got the means to see it through...
America really can be great again...
the world is watching to see what we do.

We're stronger now than ever before...
better because of mistakes in the past...
we're far from perfect...but we are changing...
some of our leaders are listening at last.

But we have to stop dwelling...
so long on the negative
why does it seem that we only care...
to read or watch...when something goes wrong
our news is nothing but killing and despair.

We have to start cheering...
when something is right...
and there's a lot of right in this land...
good people just don't create the news...
and it's time the good people...started to stand...
to show the world...America is still...
the land of the free...and the home of the brave.
We still have heroes...ideals...and dreams...
we still worship God...each in his way.

I love living here...because this is my home...
I love the mountains...the rivers and the trees...
I love the laws...the language and the people...
I love the freedom America guarantees.

So if all you can do...while enjoying her freedom
is to dwell on the faults...and the failures of the few...
be thankful you live...in a country that allows
the negative grumbling...of a person such as you.

Because I love the privilege of being an American...
and I welcome the duties...that privilege demands
because this is by far...the best place on earth...
so get up off your knees...
and united we will stand.
