Today, we say goodbye to Justice as she begins her journey to recovery. ❤️

We hope that one day soon, Justice will find her forever home and live a life filled with love and happiness.

We also hope that the DeSoto Police Department will soon provide justice for the horrific act committed against this gentle soul.

Our deepest gratitude goes to the Tri-City Animal Shelter & Adoption Center for their unwavering care and support during Justice’s initial recovery. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the Lone Star Bulldog Club Rescue for their commitment to rehabilitating Justice and ensuring she has a second chance at a happy and healthy life.

The Snow and Ice Are Gone, but the Cold Weather Isn’t! ❄️🐾

The roads may be clearing up, but the chilly temperatures are sticking around! As the cold weather continues, it’s important to keep your furry family members safe and comfortable. Here are some essential tips to help your pets thrive during this time:
1. Bring Them Indoors 🏡
Pets are safest and warmest inside. If it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them.
2. Provide Warm Shelter 🛖
If your pet must stay outside, make sure they have a sturdy, insulated shelter with dry bedding. Position the shelter away from wind and add straw for extra warmth.
3. Check Their Water 💧
Water bowls can freeze quickly in cold weather. Use a heated water bowl or check regularly to ensure they have access to fresh, unfrozen water.
4. Limit Outdoor Time 🌬️
Keep walks and outdoor playtime short to prevent frostbite and hypothermia. Wipe their paws afterward to remove ice, salt, and chemicals.
5. Watch for Signs of Cold Stress 🐕
Shivering, lethargy, and whining are signs your pet may be too cold. Bring them inside immediately if you notice these symptoms.
6. Dress for the Weather 🧥
Short-haired breeds may benefit from a coat or sweater to stay warm when outside.

Keeping our pets safe during cold weather is just as important as keeping ourselves safe. If you see any animals left out in dangerous conditions, don’t hesitate to contact us at DeSoto Animal Control 972-223-6111 #4. Let’s work together to protect our furry neighbors!

🚨 Important Reminder: Do NOT Set Animal Traps in Temperatures Below 40°F 🚨

With freezing weather approaching the DFW area, it’s important to remember that setting animal traps in these conditions is inhumane and could be considered animal cruelty. Trapped animals are at extreme risk of hypothermia, frostbite, or death when temperatures drop.

If you set a trap, you are fully responsible for the animals you trap. Allowing an animal to die in a trap due to cold weather can result in serious consequences, including potential legal action for animal cruelty.

Let’s be compassionate and responsible—do not set traps during freezing or near-freezing temperatures. If you need assistance with an animal, contact your local animal control or wildlife professionals for safe and humane alternatives.

Share this message to spread awareness and help protect animals during this cold snap!

This serves as a gentle reminder that traps should not be set during harsh weather conditions or when temperatures plummet below 40 degrees! This applies to both wildlife and TNR/Feral cat services.

If you have a TNR service lined up for next week (or during any time when temperatures may dip below a safe threshold), kindly reach out to the shelter a day prior to your appointment for confirmation. The devoted staff of Tri-City and our medical team wish to ensure that citizens partake in trapping endeavors that safeguard, rather than endanger, our cherished animal community!

📢 Animal Control Officer Assists in Rescuing Senior Dog

On 12/27/24, Animal Control Officer N. Cherry responded to assist the City of Duncanville with an animal welfare check involving a senior dog that had fallen into a creek and become stuck.

Upon arrival, the dog was found at the bottom of the creek, clearly dehydrated and in need of immediate help. Thanks to the teamwork of Animal Control Officer Cherry and the Duncanville Fire Department, the dog was safely removed from the creek and transported to the Tri-City Animal Shelter for care.

The dog’s owner was located shortly after, and we’re happy to share that the dog has since been reunited with its family and is now safe at home.

We’re proud of our team for their dedication to keeping both pets and people in our communities safe! 🐾

🎄🐾 Happy holidays from DeSoto Animal Control! 🐾🎄

As we celebrate this festive season, let’s not forget about our furry friends! Here are some tips to ensure your pets stay safe and happy during the holidays:

🎁 Pet-Friendly Decorations: Keep ornaments, tinsel, and holiday plants (like poinsettias and mistletoe) out of reach. These can be harmful if ingested.

🍗 Mind the Treats: Avoid feeding pets holiday leftovers like chocolate, bones, or foods seasoned with garlic or onions—these can be toxic to animals.

🔥 Keep Them Cozy: Make sure outdoor pets have warm, dry shelter and fresh water during cold weather.

🦴 Give the Gift of Love: Consider donating blankets, food, or toys to Tri-City Animal Shelter to help local animals in need this holiday season.

From our team at DeSoto Animal Control to you and your loved ones, we wish you a safe, joyful, and paw-some holidays! 🎅🐶🐱
