Though denials of overall injuries may be down, the delays in quality treatment and therapies are highly common. The third party provider for Cedar Hill is no better and has been warned many times of their inequities. We hope Caleb gets his treatments approved in Fort Worth and we stand with our brothers and sisters at Fort Worth Professional Firefighters Local 440 as they pursue better care for their members.

A decade ago, nine out of 10 firefighter line-of-duty injury claims were denied by Texas municipalities and their workers comp carriers. We’ve worked with Texas legislators to improve the system and denials are far less common now, but cases like that of seriously injured Fort Worth firefighter Caleb Halvorson remain infuriating. Delaying his treatment was inexcusable. Thanks to Representative Jared Patterson and John McQueeney for Texas for your support of Texas firefighters. We'll keep working until the system does not ever require community outrage for approval of proper treatment of line-of-duty injuries. With Fort Worth Professional Firefighters Local 440.

Rest easy brother. You were advocate for us and beyond. Thank you for being a bright light in so many lives.

The Lewisville Fire Fighters are heartbroken by the loss of our brother and friend, Michael Swope. Michael was a dedicated firefighter/paramedic and Field Training Officer for the Lewisville Fire Department. He was known for his great sense of humor and the way he could instantly lift the mood with his laugh. More than that, Michael always looked out for his fellow firefighters and made sure everyone around him was taken care of.

At home, Michael was a loving husband who cherished his wife and a devoted father who took immense pride in his children. His family was his foundation, and his love for them drove everything he did.

Please join us in keeping the Swope family in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.

Please see the below message from Texas State Association of Fire Fighters President John Riddle about SB10 in the current Special Session. Though this bill currently carves out cities and counties under 75k in population, this will still have a major affect on our city and our department if cities around us need more assistance due to budget shortfalls. We urge everyone to research and reach out to their representatives and voice their concerns on how this bill will affect Public Safety.

TSAFF is alerting Texas legislators of the unintended consequences of SB 10, the pending property tax reform bill. As the attached letter delivered today to Chairman Morgan Meyer and members of the House Ways and Means Committee explains, SB 10, as proposed, does not provide protections for public safety funding.

CALL TO ACTION: Texas firefighters and friends… Please urge your city council members, mayors and commissioners to stand up to protect funding of their fire/EMS and police departments today. Their calls and face-to-face meetings with state representatives and senators can influence a solution — a legislative carve out or exception to public safety funding.

Please call and email your local officials today, and let us know if you have questions. Thank you.
