Message from the Chief:

Last week, I presented the Police Department's Annual Report to the City Council. I am very proud of the work that our sworn and professional staff do regularly. It is because of their hardwork, that I am proud to share that Cedar Hill remains the safest city in the Best Southwest. Since 2017, there has been more than a 40% decline in crime in Cedar Hill. You can see the full Annual Report on our website along with our Racial Profiling Report, Use of Force Report, and Pursuit Report. https://cedarhilltx.com/96/Police

We just wrapped up the CHPD Youth Summit 2024!! We hosted 53 local kids between the ages of 10-15, over 3 days. Teaching them about them about different aspects of Law Enforcement; crime scene, K9, 911, drones, the court, traffic stops, and much more. Most importantly we spent 3 days having fun and building relationships between the officer's and the kids in our community. We played ball, shot paintball guns, had water balloon fights, and even did some slip and sliding!

Thank you to our sponsors: Albertsons, Target, In and Out Burgers, Community Credit Union, Texas Collision Center, Chick Fil A, City of Cedar Hill, Cinemark, Altitude Trampoline Park, Fuel City, Cedar Hill Police Academy, CPAAA.

Our host: Newman Academy and their staff.
And ALL of the amazing volunteers who make this event possible for our community.

If your kiddo came, feel free to SHARE a pic below! And enjoy some of the ones we took!
If they didn't, be on the lookout for next year!!

This week members of our Police Dept built fences and took down a tree at two homes in Cedar Hill. Our officers volunteered with Mission Cedar Hill to help members of our community. We are continuously impressed with the hearts of our employees -- we are equally as impressed with the heart these two fence panels made ♥️

We are sharing this video about gun safety from Chief Reyes again based on another study showing increases in accidental shootings involving children. Summer is here and many curious kids are home alone.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/06/05/accidental-shootings-children/

Washington Post: More children are finding guns and shooting themselves. But why?

A 4-year-old and 7-year-old were playing an innocent game of hide-and-seek Sunday evening in Maryland, when the younger child found not someone, but something: a loaded 9mm handgun. She pulled the weapon, a ghost gun, out from beneath the bed she was hiding under and shot herself in the arm, authorities said.

The incident was one of two in recent days in which police say a child in the D.C. region came upon such a weapon and shot themselves. The cases highlight two alarming public safety trends nationwide that worry gun safety experts and police: the soaring pervasiveness of homemade, untraceable weapons known as ghost guns and the increase in unintentional shootings by children.

Unintentional shootings involving children increased from 340 in 2015 to 411 in 2023 and nearly 1 in 3 unintentional shooters are 5 and under, according to Everytown for Gun Safety. Everytown for Gun Safety

Shout out to Fuel City! For the next three months they will be donating 3 cents from every gallon of gas sold at the police pump 13 and fire pump 10 to the FD Benevolent Fund and the Citizen’s Police Acadmey Alumni Association. Both of these organizations support many programs in our community. Now for the challenge. We will have a little friendly competition to see which department’s pump raises the most $$$.

Here's another look down memory lane as CHPD celebrates our 50th Anniversary!

These are a few of the makes, models, and designs of our patrol cars through the years. A lot has changed on the outside and the inside of these mobile offices.

If you remember the intersection of Hwy 67 and Cooper being a flashing light, you probably recognize the squad car design in the first picture too!!!
