Federal Disaster Declaration Fact Sheet
August 25, 2026

Today, President Donald J. Trump granted a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of Indiana, triggering the release of federal funds to help individuals and communities recover from severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding that occurred beginning August 11, 2026.

Individual Assistance (IA)
Assistance to individuals and households
IA-Designated Counties: Carroll, Dearborn, Decatur, Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Hamilton, Hancock, Henry, Lake, LaPorte, Madison, Marion, Morgan, Porter, Pulaski, Randolph, Rush, Tipton, Union, and Wayne Counties.

Public Assistance (PA)
Assistance for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities
PA-Designated Areas: Delaware, Fayette, Franklin, Hamilton, Henry, Lake, LaPorte, Madison, Porter, Tipton, and Wayne Counties.

Hazard Mitigation (HM)
Assistance for actions taken to prevent or reduce long-term risk to life and property from natural hazards
HM-Designated Areas: Under Review.

Additional Designations
Additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the State and warranted by the results of further assessments.

If you need to dispose of storm trash the dumpster is here! At the Brunswick schoolhouse center!
Please storm trash only!
No trees
No mattresses
No paint
No electronics
Put items in the dumpster, please do not leave them on the ground.

SDRF Application Information
If your primary residence has been impacted by the Aug. 11, 2026, disaster (E.O. 26-21), you may qualify for an individual assistance grant. However, please be aware, assistance under this program is limited to uninsured damages of eligible items occurring at your primary residence, if located in a jurisdiction that has issued a local disaster declaration and for which state assistance is necessary. Eligible items include certain home repairs, essential furnishings, essential appliances, essential tools, debris removal, medical devices, and essential transportation. Additional information on items that qualify under this program can be found here: SDRF Eligible Items

If you believe you meet these requirements and would like to request individual assistance from the state disaster relief fund, you may submit an application by clicking the button below.

Following receipt of an application, IDHS will review to determine whether you qualify for assistance and may request additional information to process your claim.

COMING FRIDAY!!!!
At the Brunswick schoolhouse 13408 Calumet Ave.
We will have a dumpster available for any items you might need to dispose of from the storm. Please no trees! Pile those by your curb. This is for items damaged by the storm and debris.
No paint cans
No mattresses
No electronics
No tires
This is for unincorporated Hanover Township. If you live in Cedar Lake or St. John the Towns have made dumpsters available for you.
It will be there for one week or until full. Please put debris inside the dumpster not around it. Please do not put debris above the sides of the dumpster if full.
I will post when it arrives Friday.

If your are in need of emergency food assistance please come to our office and fill out an emergency application.
If you are still without power or were out for 72 hours, 3 days or longer, We have a short application for you to fill out.
You will need a valid Indiana ID with your current address.
We will verify your information and outage and can provide you with food assistance if you are in need.
Our office is open Monday thru Thursday 9am - 4pm Friday 9am - 12pm

We’ve got 2 pallets of water!Anyone on a well or doesn’t have water stop at the parks building or the Trustees office tomorrow 11-2 we have a limited number of grocery cards too.
