Grant Wood Elementary

Grant Wood Elementary This is the official page for Cedar Rapids Grant Wood Elementary School. This page will be

Grant Wood school opened in the spring of 1951 and is named after Grant Wood, the Iowa artist known for his regionalism style of art and his most popular oil painting, American Gothic, depicting a farmer and his daughter in front of an American farmhouse. The Cedar Rapids Gazette sponsored a contest to name our school. Tommy Woodhouse, a 5th grader at Buchanan Elementary School, submitted the winn

ing entry. Our school is the first in Cedar Rapids to be named after an artist. The goal of the Grant Wood social media page is to share important news and celebrate the achievements of our students and staff with the community, fostering an open and respectful dialogue. To maintain a positive environment, please adhere to these guidelines. We reserve the right to delete submissions that contain: vulgar language; personal attacks of any kind; sexually suggestive or flirtatious dialogue; offensive comments that target or disparage any ethnic, racial, religious, or other protected group; postings that promote illicit, illegal, or unethical activity; or postings that communicate confidential information about students, staff, or school operations. This page is for open conversation about the school—not personal issues. It is not intended to circumvent regular communication channels; therefore, comments regarding a personal issue with the school, a specific class, or a staff member will be removed. Be respectful: personal attacks or comments deemed offensive to any member of our community will not be tolerated. Additionally, please stay on topic; this page is dedicated to the education and events of Grant Wood, so keep the conversation relevant to our school. Do not use this site for commercial purposes, like running for office or selling products, or to link to other pages or post spam. Finally, remember that the school's mission is education, so be certain your comments are appropriate for an educational environment and fans of all ages, and be factual—blatantly inaccurate information will be removed. Abuse of these guidelines can lead to removal of a specific posting or the blocking and removal from the page. Please note that comments posted on this site do not reflect the opinions and position of Grant Wood or the Cedar Rapids Community School District (CRCSD) and its employees.

Grant Wood Griffins recently enjoyed a music lesson and dance party with local jazz band 10th Street Rapids! Made up of Washington High School students who first met at McKinley Middle School, the band performs at local festivals, venues, schools, and other events. They love sharing their passion for music and hope to inspire the next generation of young musicians.
