We had a great time yesterday at the DeWolf Innovation Center’s 3rd Annual Parking Lot Party! 🎉

While the heavy rain may have moved the event indoors, it certainly didn’t dampen the fun or the turnout. Thank you to DeWolf Innovation Center for hosting such a wonderful event and bringing the community together.

We enjoyed connecting with so many community members, sharing Horizons’ mission, and highlighting the programs and services we offer to support older adults and others in need throughout our community.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to visit with us, we appreciate the opportunity to share the impact of our work! 💙

What’s Happening Wednesday? 🦺🚧

The new front entrance is really taking shape and will soon welcome visitors into a bright new reception area designed to better serve everyone who walks through our doors.

Inside, progress continues on several new office spaces that will support our growing programs and team. Another exciting addition is the future movie room, creating a comfortable space for connection, entertainment, and community.

We are deeply grateful to recognize the incredible generosity of Sheri Clemmensen, whose legacy will continue to make a difference through a $50,000 bequest to Horizons’ Johnson County Meals on Wheels program.

Sheri was known for her kind heart, quick wit, love of the outdoors, devotion to animals, and unwavering generosity toward causes that helped others. An accomplished professional, she worked as an insurance agent in Iowa City and was even the insurance agent for legendary Iowa football coach Hayden Fry. Later, she found a career that reflected her passion for nature, working in Iowa City’s Parks and Recreation Department.

Throughout her life, Sheri supported organizations that were close to her heart, including animal organizations, food assistance programs and Meals on Wheels. Because of her thoughtful gift, countless meals, friendly visits, and moments of connection will be provided to older adults in our community for years to come.

We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to Sheri’s family for honoring her wishes and helping ensure this gift reached Horizons. Pictured are her brother Kirk, Horizons Vice President of Development Jim Miller, her brother Rex, and Rex’s wife, Judy, whose support will help carry Sheri’s legacy of kindness and generosity forward.

Thank you, Sheri, and thank you to the Clemmensen family, for making a lasting impact on the lives of others. Your generosity will be felt through every meal delivered and every neighbor served.

What’s Happening Wednesday? 🚧🚜

The new parking lot, located diagonally from our building, is really taking shape. Once complete, it will provide parking for staff and our NTS vehicle fleet.

Along the alley side of the building, crews are making great progress on the installation of new office windows.

Horizons' NTS (Neighborhood Transportation Service) program was delighted to provide shuttle service for Friendship Force of Cedar Rapids - Iowa City!

During their outing, participants enjoyed visiting some of our community's unique landmarks, including the historic Veterans Memorial Building and taking in the views from Mount Trashmore.

Thank you to Friendship Force for allowing us to be part of your adventure. We're proud to help connect people to the places, activities, and experiences that make our community special!

🚧 What’s Happening Wednesday? 🚧

Walls came down and now new ones are going back up! Progress is moving quickly as our new office spaces begin to take shape, and additional windows are being installed to help brighten the space.

Construction has also started on a new parking lot for our NTS transportation vehicle fleet, located kitty-corner from our building. This added space will help us better accommodate our vehicles while creating more room for all of our senior center attendees!
