We’re looking for volunteers to help us give these spaces a fresh coat of paint and a fresh start for the women and families who call our shelter home.

🏡 Help Us Welcome a Resident Home! ❤️

Tomorrow is a BIG day! One of our residents is moving into permanent housing, and we couldn’t be more excited for her! 🎉🔑

As she prepares to turn her new place into a home, there are still a few household essentials she could really use:

🍴 Silverware
🥤 Cups or drinking glasses
🥣 Bowls
🍱 Tupperware/food storage containers
🍲 Crock-Pot/slow cooker
🛁 Bathroom rugs
💡 Lamps

New or gently used items are welcome! If you have any of these items tucked away that you no longer need, they could make a huge difference for someone starting fresh.

Every donation helps make an empty space feel a little more like home. ❤️

🧸 Help Bring Comfort to a Child in Need 💙
The Hiawatha Peace Officers Association is proud to partner with St. Luke’s Child Protection Center for a Stuffed Animal & Toy Drive to support children during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
When children come to the Child Protection Center, a simple stuffed animal, toy, or comfort item can make a world of difference. You can help by donating new, unused items such as:
🧸 Stuffed animals
⚽ Sports balls
🎲 Games
📚 Activity books
🚗 Toy cars & trucks
🪆 Baby dolls
💧 Water bottles
🪥 Toiletries
📓 Journals
🎨 Art supplies

Everyday Essentials Drive

At the Catholic Worker House, we provide more than a safe place to stay—we provide the everyday essentials that help our guests feel comfortable and cared for. Because these items are used every day, they are always in need of replacement.

We're currently collecting items such as tall kitchen garbage bags, towels, cleaning supplies, shampoo and conditioner, lotion, Sharpies, Ziplock bags, Tupperware, twin sheet sets, deodorant, toilet paper, and paper towels.

Every donation, big or small, helps us provide a clean, welcoming home for the women and children we serve. Thank you for helping us meet these everyday needs!

Every Monday from 1:00 - 2:00 PM, we have volunteers waiting at our dock to receive any of your garden bounty you would like to bring us.
Getting it all fresh on Mondays allows us to sort and package your nutritious home-grown fare for distribution to our neighbors in need on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.
No need to call first, just show up between 1:00 and 2:00.
Thanks for keeping our volunteers Monica and Mary busy on Monday afternoons!

Cultivate Hope Corner Store Now Accepts WIC Benefits

Families in the Cedar Rapids area have another convenient place to use their WIC benefits. Cultivate Hope Corner Store has announced on its page that it now accepts the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).

The addition makes it easier for eligible families to purchase fresh, healthy, and affordable food close to home.

Community members who receive WIC benefits are encouraged to stop by and shop at the store. Residents are also invited to share the news with friends, neighbors, and family members who may benefit from the expanded access.

The new service is another step toward improving access to nutritious food and supporting the health and well-being of local families.

Cultivate Hope Corner Store is located in a former food desert in the historic Hosmer Building on the corner of Ellis Boulevard and E Avenue, near downtown Cedar Rapids (604 Ellis Blvd NW). It is a non-profit grocery store and offers a variety of fresh, affordable groceries for everyone.
