Did you catch the Cedar Rapids Kernels final home game of the season yesterday?
Cedar Rapids police and our friends from the Cedar Rapids Fire Department joint color guard presented the pre-game colors, and Lilly from the CRPD family provided a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem.

You may see extra law enforcement on the road this evening as we work with the Iowa Governor's Traffic Safety Bureau to reduce impaired driving on Cedar Rapids streets, Linn County highways and State roads.

Plain and simple, if you choose to drink tonight, get a ride, hand over the keys to a sober driver, or stay put. Your life and of those around you are worth saving.

Cedar Rapids police are ramping up efforts to curb impaired driving this weekend!
will see agencies around the state and country deploy extra impaired driving reduction efforts including increased enforcement on the streets.

$10,000 for a DUI or
$15-$20 for a ride...
Seems like an easy choice to make.

Happy from all the working canines of Cedar Rapids. CRPD and CRFD both have working dogs who perform a variety of functions for us.
Wally the arson dog sniffs out accelerants used to start fires for Cedar Rapids Fire Department.
Canine Officer Korsa is trained in patrol and explosives detection.
Canine Officer Ranger is a big lover who leads his handler on long searches for all kinds of people - lost kids, criminals, you name it.
Our other canine officers including Elo, Lara, Mac, Ryder, and Riggs all work with CRPD officers on patrol and in narcotics detection.

And a special recognition to Canine Officer Bart.
Bart has served the community for nearly nine years and has been an amazing partner to our entire police team. He's tracked criminals, sniffed out drugs, helped remove fi****ms and contraband from the streets, and made thousands smile at various public meet and greets.
Bart retired a couple weeks ago when his handler realized the continued work was more than his body could handle day in and day out. His heart is still in it, but his ability to remain ready for action was simply not there. It's not easy to see him leave but he's got a great home.

UPDATE AUG 27 - 10:00.am.
We have heard from the investigative team at Canyonlands NP and they have found the Cedar Rapids connection to this case! Thank you for the help, the shares, and the support.
This will help investigators define the search area as they look for Patrick Trier.

Someone in Cedar Rapids may be able to help.
Canyonlands NP Rangers tell us two hikers signed in at the Horseshoe Canyon Trailhead on August 17 and used the initials "DDR" and listed their hometown as "C.R. IA."
They are hoping those potential Cedar Rapids residents might have seen or have information about 71-year-old Patrick Trier, who's been missing since August 16.

The National Park Service is asking for the public’s help in locating Patrick J. Trier, a 71-year-old white male who was last seen in Salina, Utah, on Sunday, August 16.

Trier may have been camping in Goblin Valley State Park or near Moab, Utah, before arriving at the Horseshoe Canyon trailhead of Canyonlands National Park on August 17. Trier has long brown hair, a mustache, and has an atrophied right arm. He is approximately six feet tall and has a medium build. He was most likely wearing jeans and a blue hat and carrying a small black and gray backpack.

Cedar Rapids Police Make Several Arrests Following Car Chase and Weapons Display

Cedar Rapids, IA – At approximately 7:38p.m. on Sunday, August 23, Cedar Rapids police responded to numerous 911 calls regarding two vehicles engaged in a chase and possible displays of weapons in the 1500 block of 8th St SW. Officers located two vehicles, one of which had run off the road, and both with damage. There were multiple people involved and witnesses described one driver running their vehicle into the other, forcing it to hit a tree.

Following interviews and investigation, several people were arrested and transported to the Linn County Jail.

Jaylan Bentley, age 26, of Cedar Rapids
-Child Endangerment
-One-Way Traffic violation
-No Valid Driver's License
-Reckless Driving.

Lamya Wright, age 27, of Cedar Rapids
-Child Endangerment

Lawrence Jefferson, age 30, of Matteson, IL
-Intimidation with a Weapon
-Outstanding Warrant

Lamonra O'Neal, age 25, of Matteson, IL
-Child Endangerment
-Obstruction of Prosecution
-Failure to Use Child Safety Restraints
-One-Way Traffic violation
-Reckless Driving

There is an ongoing investigation into this incident.

Cedar Rapids Police Investigating Thursday Morning Shooting Incident - One Deceased

Cedar Rapids, IA – Cedar Rapids police are investigating a Thursday morning shooting incident with one person deceased. Officers were called to the 1800 block of Western Dr SW at approximately 5:58a.m. on Thursday, August 20, following a call to the Joint Communications Agency regarding shots being fired. Upon arrival, officers located one person deceased. The name and age of the decedent is not being released at this time.

There is an active investigation into this incident, and more information will be released when available.

Cedar Rapids Regional Police Academy has entered week 12. We closed out the training last week with one of the most difficult physical challenges of the whole course.
Pepper spray day.
Before being certified to carry and utilize pepper spray, every recruit must experience its effects and learn to continue to operate after potential exposure. It's hard, confusing, disorienting, and takes a focus on the mission to stay engaged.
After being sprayed, recruits engage in one minute of hard physical activity, accurately fire two rounds at a target and complete handcuffing operations.
