Kenwood Leadership Academy serves over 460 children in Pre-Kindergarten through Fifth grade. KLA is a magnet school which is part of the Cedar Rapids Community School District and is located in the Northeast quadrant of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.KLA serves students from all over the Cedar Rapids community. The goal of the KLA social media page is to share important news and celebrate the achievements of

our students and staff with the community, fostering an open and respectful dialogue. To maintain a positive environment, please adhere to these guidelines. One week ago was our Kindergarten Teacher Reveal! Students got a t-shirt that matched their their teacher, Ms. Brittany💜, Mrs. Thomas💚, or Ms. Cindy💙. The most exciting part was watching our little leaders RUN home to their classroom for the year (really the only time this will happen in the halls at KLA). Happy Kindergarten Reveal to all who celebrate 🎉

Kenwood Leadership Academy is having its first Spirit Night!
Arby's will donate 10% of all sales back to PTA from 5:00-8:00pm on Wednesday, September 9th, at their Collins Road location.
PTA will match whatever funds we raise from our Spirit Night to donate to HACAP, a local non-profit that helps support our community and our leaders in many ways, including Operation Backpack. We hope to see you there!

Hello, KLA Families!

You may be aware of the Especially for You Race that happens at the beginning of October every year. By registering for this event, participants help raise funds for local cancer screenings and support services.We want to invite you to join the KLA team. The race will happen on the morning of Sunday, October 4, 2026.

Our team is open to any KLA student or staff members and their families (the event is open to all ages and genders). Each person is responsible for paying for their own registration. Please remember that even though it's called a "race" and there is an option to run the 5K, most participants walk. It's much more like a fun stroll through downtown than an actual race and it's not competitive at all.

Even though we have had a staff team in the past, this is the first year that we are inviting students and their families. As you may know, Service Learning is a part of the Leader in Me program. We hope some students and their families will choose to join us in order to help meet a real-life need in our community.

The long sleeve t-shirt color this year is called "wild plum." You receive this free with your registration. The KLA logo will be on the back of the shirt.

The benefits of joining our team are:
-At no extra cost to the registration fee, your shirt will have the KLA logo on the back of it.
-Since you are part of the KLA team, we will pick up your shirt and race packet for you and deliver it to your student at school, which saves you a trip down to Mercy.
-On the Friday before the race, all students and staff participating can wear their shirts to school and we'll get a team picture.

You can choose to do the 5K run, the 5K walk (about 3 miles), or the Family Fun Walk (about 1 mile). Just FYI, the price to register increases slightly after Aug. 31.

The first PTA meeting of the year is upon us! Join us on Tuesday, September 1, from 6:00-7:00pm in the KLA library. We will be talking about our first spirit night, the annual fundraiser, and how to increase our membership. We are also looking for someone who loves to plan events to head up our Game Night/Trivia Night in October!
