I recently received this kind note from someone who couldn’t attend my live Aging Solo Group – “Being a Better Health Advocate” presentation, but took the time to watch the follow-up link:

“I was unable to attend your Aging Solo Group - Being a Better Health Advocate presentation when it was live. But the follow-up link put me in touch with your brilliant work.

You were one of the best presenters I’ve listened to. You had a plan and were well prepared; explained the topic in a straightforward manner; I could tell that you had first hand experience; your slides were excellent and supported your conversation clearly.”

Grateful for the opportunity to share this work and even more grateful for feedback like this.

A patient advocate is someone who helps you navigate the healthcare system—making sure you understand your care, your rights, your bills, and your treatment options. They act as a guide and support person when things feel confusing or overwhelming.

Marc, through On The Marc Advocate, works with patients and families to help simplify this process. He can assist in coordinating care, clarifying medical information, and helping resolve insurance or billing challenges so you don’t have to face the system alone.

Caregiving is about more than meeting daily needs. It is about creating meaningful moments and preserving a true sense of connection.

Taking time for simple outings, like a walk or getting fresh air, can make a powerful difference in a senior’s day. These moments of movement, conversation, and change of scenery help reduce feelings of isolation, lift spirits, and bring a renewed sense of joy and dignity.

Sometimes, it is the simplest gestures that have the greatest impact, reminding seniors they are seen, valued, and never alone.

As we age, maintaining independence and staying safe at home becomes more important than ever. Many accidents involving older adults happen in familiar places—often right in their own homes. The good news is that a few small, practical changes can significantly reduce risks and help seniors feel more confident in their daily routines. Learn more about Senior Safety below!

One of the most overlooked safety habits is also one of the simplest: making sure you can see clearly at night.
Why Nighttime Safety Matters for Senior Safety

Falls are one of the leading causes of injury among older adults, and many of them happen when someone gets up in the middle of the night. Darkness, grogginess, and unfamiliar surroundings can make even a short walk to the bathroom risky.

That’s why preparation matters.
Senior Safety and A Simple Tip That Can Prevent Falls

Keep a flashlight within reach of your bed in case you need to get up during the night.

Having quick access to light helps you see your surroundings immediately, reducing the risk of tripping over furniture, rugs, or obstacles you might not notice in the dark.

It’s a small step, but it can make a major difference in preventing unnecessary falls and injuries.
Building Safer Habits at Home for Senior Safety

Senior safety isn’t about making life restrictive—it’s about making life safer and more comfortable. Along with keeping a flashlight nearby, other helpful steps include:

Keeping walkways clear of clutter
Securing loose rugs or cords
Using nightlights in hallways and bathrooms
Making sure frequently used items are easy to reach
Checking that stairways are well-lit and have sturdy handrails

These small adjustments work together to create a safer living environment and support aging in place with confidence.

From a young boy growing up with cerebral palsy, I was never alone in my journey. In addition to my very supporting parents, my grandparents stood beside me through it all, believing in me, supporting my goals, and reminding me that limitations aren’t roadblocks… they’re starting points.

Through every challenge, every therapy session, and every hard-earned victory, they were there—encouraging me to keep going and never lose sight of what was possible.

That foundation shaped who I am today.

Now, as a Board Certified Patient Advocate, I show up for others the same way they showed up for me, with compassion, persistence, and unwavering support.

Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover it ❤️
