With us only being 2 WEEKS away, the Celeste Volunteer Fire Department is excited to announce that the MICHAEL CONNELLY BAND will be performing live from 6 PM - 9 PM Saturday, September 5th!

The Bash will be taking place from 4 PM - 9 PM Saturday, September 5th. The location of this event and performances will be the HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL FIELD PARKING LOT.

***Wolf Creek Fire***

Around 3:30pm this afternoon, Station 23, Wolfe City Fire Rescue, Greenville Fire-Rescue, TX, and Texas A&M Forest Service were dispatched to a grass fire in Commerce Fire-Rescue first due fire district. Commerce Fire arrived on scene to find approximately 20-30 acres on fire with high fuel and multiple structures threatened. As the fire progressed, it moved into dense vegetation and more resources were added… Campbell Volunteer Fire Department, Cumby Volunteer Fire Department, and Hunt County Emergency Corps. As a result of low humidity, ground fuel, and winds the fire grew very rapidly. The Texas Forest Service deployed 2 fire bulldozers that created a firebreak to prevent the fire from spreading further. In addition, an aerial firefighting helicopter was dispatched to assist with operations. This helicopter made several water drops in and around the fire. The forward progression was stopped around 2 hours into the incident and crews operated on scene for over 5 hours. A total of 50 acres burned. Great job by all Departments involved.

The Texas A&M Forest Service has deployed a task force to our area. Crews have been deployed to this area because of the extreme fire danger. Some of those resources operating today included… 2 fire bulldozers, multiple support and command personnel, an aerial firefighting helicopter, and 3 Type 6 brush trucks from MCESD #2 - Montgomery Fire Department, North Montgomery County Fire Department, and Spring Fire Department. We would like to give a big shoutout and thank you to all of these agencies and resources for there help today!

As a reminder, Hunt County is now under a BURN BAN! Please refrain from any and all outdoor burning!

***Grass Fire In Extreme Fire Danger***

Around 7:45pm Thursday evening, Station 23 was dispatched to assist Blue Ridge Fire Department, Blue Ridge TX with a grass fire on FM 981. The fire was brought under control and burned a little less than 2 acres. Crews operated for approximately 30 minutes before returning back to the city.

Station 23 has responded to numerous grass fires within the last week, two of those exceeding 45+ acres. The upcoming weather conditions keep favoring extreme fire danger for Hunt and the surrounding counties.

Wolfe City Fire Rescue says it best…

There is an Extreme Fire Danger risk for our area beginning today through at least Saturday.

Our area is experiencing conditions that can allow wildfires to ignite easily, spread rapidly, and become difficult for firefighters to control. Dry vegetation combined with hot, dry and/or windy conditions can turn a small spark into a fast-moving wildfire within minutes.

⚠️ IF A FIRE STARTS: Call 911 immediately. Do not wait to see if you can control it yourself. Under extreme conditions, a small fire can quickly outpace suppression efforts.

If you see smoke or fire, report it early and provide the dispatcher with the best location possible.
PLEASE DO YOUR PART. During periods of extreme wildfire potential, prevention is our first and best line of defense.

***Large Mutual Aid Grass Fire***

Around 3:15pm this afternoon, Station 23 was requested to respond mutual aid to a large grass fire in Wolfe City Fire Rescue first due fire district. Brush and Attack 123 made the response. Wolfe City arrived on scene to find 30+ acres on fire with high winds and a rapid rate of spread. A 2nd alarm was struck bringing, Commerce Fire-Rescue, Bailey VFD, Texas A&M Forest Service, Hunt County Emergency Corps. The fire was brought under control within the first hour of the first arriving company and Station 23 operated for a total of 3 hours before clearing the scene. In total 76 acres were burned and 100+ hay bales were lost. Great job by all departments involved.
