Mercer Health earns Numerous National Awards for Excellence in Care!

Mercer Health continues to earn national recognition for delivering exceptional healthcare. Multiple prestigious organizations have honored Mercer Health for its outstanding patient experience, clinical excellence, and commitment to quality care.

Newsweek Best-In-State

Mercer Health has been named one of Newsweek’s Best‑In‑State Hospitals for 2026, a distinction awarded to hospitals that demonstrate superior performance across patient satisfaction, quality measures, and peer recommendations. Newsweek partners with Statista to evaluate hospitals nationwide, analyzing data such as patient experience surveys, hospital recommendations from medical professionals, and publicly reported quality metrics. Mercer Health’s inclusion on this list places it among the most trusted and respected hospitals in Ohio.

Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Excellence Award

Mercer Health earned the Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Excellence Award, placing it among the top 5% in the nation for overall patient experience based on ten measures, including communication with nurses and physicians, staff responsiveness, pain management, and overall hospital environment. Mercer Health’s consistently high scores demonstrate its commitment to delivering care that is not only clinically excellent but also compassionate, respectful, and patient‑centered.

Becker’s Hospital Review – Top Recommended Hospital

Becker’s Hospital Review recognized Mercer Health as a Top Recommended Hospital, an honor based on the percentage of patients who say they would “definitely recommend” the hospital to friends and family. This recognition highlights the trust Mercer Health has built within the community and reflects the positive experiences of patients who choose Mercer Health for their care. Becker’s evaluates hospitals nationwide using publicly available data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Women’s Choice Awards

Mercer Health received multiple Women’s Choice Awards, a designation that reflects the preferences and priorities of women—the nation’s primary healthcare decision‑makers. These awards include:

Best Hospital for Minimally Invasive Surgery — Recognizing hospitals that demonstrate excellence in surgical outcomes, patient safety, and minimally invasive techniques that reduce recovery time and improve patient comfort.
Best Hospital for Emergency Care — Awarded to hospitals that provide timely, effective, and high‑quality emergency services. Mercer Health ranks among the top 1% of hospitals nationwide for emergency care performance.
Best Hospital for Obstetrics — Honoring hospitals that excel in maternity care, including labor and delivery safety, patient satisfaction, and clinical outcomes for mothers and newborns.

Acute Stroke Ready Certification

Mercer Health has achieved The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval and the American Stroke Association’s Heart‑Check Mark for Acute Stroke Ready Certification. This certification is awarded to hospitals that demonstrate the ability to provide immediate, evidence‑based stroke care. It recognizes Mercer Health’s readiness to diagnose and treat stroke patients quickly—an essential capability when every minute matters. The certification process includes rigorous onsite evaluations, performance measure reviews, and adherence to national stroke care standards.

“These awards reflect the dedication of our entire team,” said Jon Dingledine, CEO at Mercer Health. “Each recognition represents our ongoing promise to deliver exceptional care with compassion and excellence.”

Property taxes currently make up roughly 65% of local tax revenue statewide. These funds support many essential community services, including schools, EMS, fire departments, law enforcement, public health, senior services, libraries, parks, and road maintenance.

A proposed constitutional amendment in Ohio would eliminate property taxes statewide. According to state fiscal analyses, removing this funding source would "immediately destabilize local budgets and force deep cuts to essential services."

Local health departments depend on stable local funding. These funds support services such as:
• Disease investigation and outbreak response
• Emergency preparedness planning
• Vaccination clinics
• Water and sewage safety programs
• Maternal and child health services
• Environmental health inspections
• Coordination during severe weather events and other emergencies

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about issues that impact local public health infrastructure and essential community services. For more detailed information, please read the memo sent by the Office of Budget and Management to Governor DeWine in February:
