Our department is more than just responding to emergencies — we’re neighbors helping neighbors and a team dedicated to serving our community.

As a volunteer firefighter, you’ll have the opportunity to:

No experience? No problem. Training is provided, and there are many ways to help support the department.

This week, we’re featuring Chad Fortkamp, Assistant Chief!

Serving with the department since 2012, Chad joined the fire service with one goal in mind — helping the community.

What they enjoy most about being a firefighter:“Being able to help others.”

Favorite part of the department:
“The camaraderie between all of the members.”

When asked about their most memorable moment, Chad shared that the entire experience of serving on the department has been great.

Advice for anyone thinking about joining:
“It is a great way to help out your community.”

We’re proud to kick off our Firefighter Spotlight Series by introducing Chief Lee Braun!

Chief Braun has been serving our department for 18 years. Inspired by his father’s service, he chose to follow in those footsteps and give back to the community in a meaningful way.

“The guys at the station and being able to help people when they need anything.”

“Being with a great group and doing good in the community.”

“Helping a family after their house exploded.”

We’re proud to stand alongside our partners at the Sheriff’s Office in recognizing the incredible work of our 911 dispatchers.
They are the calm voice in the chaos, the first first-responders, and a critical link in every emergency. Thank you for everything you do for our community—today and every day!

Are you a high school student interested in serving your community, learning life-saving skills, and being part of something bigger than yourself?

Our Junior Firefighter Program is now accepting applications!

This program gives students hands-on experience in:

🚧 ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE 🚧

Please plan to make alternate routes for the next few months while the bridge is out on 219 in Montezuma.

As a department we have a plan in place to to continue providing emergency services without interruption. While the roadway is closed, we have:
✅️Established alternate response routes
✅️Coordinated with neighboring departments for coverage if needed
✅️Reviewed access points to ensure rapid response times

Our priority is - and always will be - the safety of our community. Please continue to call 911 in the event of an emergency. We are always ready to respond.

We appreciate your patience as the bridge issue is addressed and we will provide updates as they become available!

Like any volunteer organization, we too are in need of some more volunteer firemen and firewomen. If you live in Franklin Township and think you'd like to give back to your community, come get an application. Swing by the station on a Thursday evening at 7:00 pm and see us. The station is located on State Route 219. See how rewarding being on the Montezuma Fire Department is.
