Nine members of the COARNG Chaplain corps completed the Combat Homiletics course this week hosted from the U.S. Army Institute of Religious Leadership (USA-IRL) in Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

Combat homiletics is the specialized military art of preaching and delivering spiritual care in high-stress, combat, or trauma-induced environments.

It equips military chaplains to communicate messages of hope, resilience, and communal lament without minimizing the harsh realities of war.

Today is the National Day of Prayer, an annual observance held on the first Thursday in May, inviting people of all faiths to pause, reflect, and pray for our nation.

Rooted in early American tradition, the first National Day of Prayer was called by the Continental Congress in 1775 to seek wisdom during the nation's formation. The observance was later officially established into law by Congress and President Harry S. Truman in 1952.

Members of the CONG Chaplain team had the opportunity to participate in a meaningful and emotional staff ride to Little Rock Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas to learn about the courage of the “Little Rock 9.”

A group leadership discussion was held following the staff ride to discuss moral courage, command advisement, the role of the National Guard in a Title 32 and Title 10 status and much more.

This was a thought provoking session hosted by our team at the National Guard Bureau (NGB).

81st Anniversary of the liberation of Dachau. Decades later—we are connected to that legacy.

The Colorado Army National Guard is not separate from that story.

We are part of it.

Through the lineage of the 45th Infantry Division…
through Soldiers like Felix Sparks…
through those who stood in that place and chose courage, discipline, and humanity—

we carry that history forward.

Not as a distant memory.

But as a responsibility.

A responsibility to remember.
A responsibility to bear witness.
A responsibility to stand against evil—in whatever form it appears in our time.
