YAY... another downed tree at Indian Creek was cleared today by two of our Trail Bosses, Jerry and Chris Amrhein!

A big thank-you to our member, Debra Niles, for reporting the tree after her ride. It's members like Debra, along with dedicated volunteers like Jerry and Chris, who help keep our trails safe, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone.

This is a great example of what makes our club special—members looking out for one another and working together to care for the trails we all love. Thank you, team!

HOW AND WHY DO HORSES GET ULCERS?

Equine gastric ulcers can affect any horse of any age. Up to 90% of racehorses and 60% of show horses, as well as non-performance horses and even foals are affected by equine gastric ulcers. Gastric ulcers result from the erosion of the stomach lining due to a prolonged exposure to the normal acid present in the stomach.

Unlike ulcers in humans, bacteria do not appear to cause equine gastric ulcers. Instead, this condition is often a man-made disease. Stall confinement alone can lead to the development of ulcers. A horse’s feeding schedule and high-grain diets can also contribute to the development of ulcers.

Stress, both environmental and physical, can increase the likelihood of ulcers, as can hauling, training, and mixing groups of horses. Strenuous exercise can decrease the emptying of the stomach as well as the blood flow, thus further contributing to the problem.

The treatment and prevention of gastric ulcers is directed at removing these predisposing factors, therefore decreasing acid production within the horse’s stomach. Prevention of ulcers is the key in helping your horse, as neutralizing the production of stomach acid is nature’s best antacid.

Please note that the only way to definitively diagnose ulcers is through a gastroscopy. An equine veterinarian should always be consulted in any case of suspected gastric ulcers to determine the best course of action and treatment for the individual horse.

🌲 Clearing Photo Dump — Indian Creek Equestrian Camp Area 🌲

Another successful trail clearing project completed at the Indian Creek Equestrian Camp area! Our Chapter cleared the inner trails and Trail #800, with the exception of the NW corner #800, which we did not work that far up this time.

In total, the crew removed approximately 20 fallen trees from the trail system, cleared large amounts of debris, and trimmed back overgrowth to allow safer and easier travel throughout the area.

Indian Creek continues to be a favorite project area for our Chapter. We’ve been involved with maintaining and caring for these trails since the very beginning — more than 30 years ago — and we’re proud to help keep them open and enjoyable for everyone.

Thank you to all of the volunteers who came out and put in the hard work! 🌲🪚🐴
A special thank you to our member, Debra Niles, for capturing these great photos and documenting another successful project.
