Good Samaritan Law & Overdose Awareness:

Last Friday, two of our prosecutors, Jane Walsh and Ryan Brackley, joined a panel discussion hosted by Young People in Recovery focused on Colorado’s Good Samaritan Law and its role in responding to overdoses.

FACT: Drug overdose remains a nationwide epidemic, with opioids responsible for the majority of overdose deaths. When administered in time, naloxone can reverse an opioid overdose, and Good Samaritan laws can provide legal protections to people who seek emergency help for someone experiencing an overdose. Research has found that these laws are associated with an approximately 15% reduction in overdose deaths.

Thank you to Young People in Recovery for bringing our community together for an important conversation about recovery, public safety and saving lives.

***MEDIA RELEASE***
A Colorado parolee is back in prison for the murder of Margaret “Meg” Eberhart in Englewood back in 2022.

After the case initially went unsolved, additional investigative and forensic work (including new DNA testing) helped investigators build the case.

This sentence provides accountability for Meg’s death and recognizes the devastating impact her loss has had on her family. We are grateful to our law enforcement and forensic partners for their persistence in helping us pursue justice.

There's no better way to celebrate community than by spending an evening with the people we serve.

This week, the 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office was proud to join the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office and neighbors for National Night Out. Events like these are a great reminder that safer communities are built through strong partnerships.

The 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office has completed its review of an officer-involved shooting at an Englewood Denny’s and determined the involved officer’s use of force was legally justified.

On October 6, 2025, officers responded to reports of a man threatening people inside an Englewood Denny's with a large knife. During the encounter, the man refused repeated commands to drop the weapon and attacked two officers, prompting a third officer to fire a single shot to stop the threat.

***GRAND JURY INDICTMENT***

The 18th Judicial District grand jury returned an indictment charging Aurora Police Officer Matthew Neely in connection with the August 30, 2025, death of Rajon Belt-Stubblefield.

The grand jury returned a true bill charging Neely with one count of Second-Degree Murder and one count of Manslaughter.

NOTE: A grand jury indictment is NOT a determination of guilt. Like every defendant, Neely is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
