✔️Check out this SOS: Save Our Shoreline project that took place this year!

Rich had a steep slope to stabilize and did so using roughly 400 native plants. 🌿 Natives have extremely deep root systems that hold soil in place and facilitate water infiltration to the site.

💧This is a great example of a project that will protect water quality on Little Green Lake and offer food and shelter for pollinators. 🐝

🎉 A HUGE shout out to Nancy Moe-Mergens, Lorene Gray, and Mike Mergens for their work in gathering up an enormous quantity of lead tackle and recycling it at the Chisago County Government Center!

🦢 Lead tackle is harmful and often fatal to waterfowl when ingested. Removing it from your tackle box and replacing it with lead-free varieties is an easy way to prevent loon, swan, and other diving bird mortality.

Come join us on August 8 for Starry Trek! Starry Trek is an annual, one-day event where the public meets at training sites across Minnesota to learn how to identify starry stonewort and other aquatic invasive species (AIS). After the training, participants head out to local water access points to look for signs of these AIS!

Monday cuteness!

Check out this pair of Trumpeter swans with their 4 cygnets swimming in a LID lake last Wednesday...

It is estimated that lead poisoning from the ingestion of lead shot and fishing sinkers is responsible for more than half the mortality of Trumpeter Swans in the Midwest (Gillette and Shea 1995). In 2013, due to continued threats, the Trumpeter Swan was included on Minnesota’s List of Endangered and Threatened Species List, with the status of special concern.

Consider removing lead from your tackle box and switch to lead-free varieties. Lead tackle can be recycled at the Chisago County Household Hazardous Waste & Recycling facility in North Branch, as well as the Water Resources Office at the Government Center in Center City.

Even easier: drop it in one of our Hook, Line & Sinker collectors at boat launches within the LID.
