One of our drone pilots used our DJI M4T to assist in a search for a missing juvenile who had run away. While deputies and officers were doing a search, our pilot launched the drone, and used the thermal camera to assist in the search. The pilot was able to find the person along a tree line, direct officers to the location, and then return the juvenile back to family members.

The use of a drone in this situation cut down on the time needed to conduct the search and provided a successful resolution to the situation.

We have continued to invest in using drones and our drone team over the last several years. We now have 12 deputies that are pilots on our drone team. They train as a team on a monthly basis and do individual training on their own during down time on patrol shifts.

**UPDATE** Master Oogway is on his way home!! Thank you social media.

I believe Master Oogway has lost his way. If anyone recognizes this majestic tortoise that was found just south of Lindstrom, please have the owner call Dispatch at 651.257.4100 so he can get back to training the Dragon Warrior.

There is NO known threat to our community.

Chisago dispatch sent out an alert that went wider than intended and with the wrong subject header.

The alert was intended for the area east of the City of Harris near County Road 9 and Harder.

An adult male fled from officers in that area, he is known by law enforcement and has an outstanding warrant. While there is not believed to be any immediate threat to the public, residents in that area are asked to contact Chisago dispatch if they identify any suspicious activity in the referenced area 651.257.4100 or 911

Attention Chisago Lakes area residents, meet Rauno. Rauno stopped by today to introduce himself and chat with Captain Mahowald.

Rauno is from Estonia and is spending his summer selling educational products through Southwest Advantage. He has followed local guidelines and obtained the appropriate solicitors permits to conduct door-to-door sales in the area.

This is not an endorsement or promotion of his sale efforts, but a general advisement to the public of his presence and procurement of proper permits.

Tonight was the final night of Reserve Deputy Academy training for our five new reserve deputies. Over the last nine weeks they’ve gone through training on geography, radio communications, use of force, legal issues, CPR/ first-aid, and have completed three weeks of scenario-based training.

Tonight they were sworn in by Sheriff Thyen, and will join the ranks of our Reserve Deputy Unit which is now is comprised of 18 volunteers. This unit provides assistance for large events, traffic control, staffing booths at community events, and extra patrols throughout our county. They are some of the very best citizens Chisago County has to offer and we are very lucky to have them come on board!

Yesterday we went to each of the high schools throughout the county and had students help us spread the word on traffic safety. The students used stencils and spray paint to put the traffic safety messages on the exits of the parking lots at each of the high schools.

This past weekend Sheriff Brandon Thyen and members of our Reserve Deputy Unit had the honor of helping the American Legion Post 139 in Harris. They spent the morning putting American flags at the graves of veterans at the various cemeteries in the city of Harris ahead of Memorial Day.

Each of these flags represent a life devoted to something greater than self. It’s a symbol of men and women who answered a call to serve, defend, and sacrifice for our nation and the freedoms we enjoy. These are not only names etched in stone. They are a legacy we remember.
