For nearly nine decades, the Center City Fire Department has been shaped by neighbors stepping forward to serve neighbors. Established in 1937, the department has seen countless families dedicate their time and hearts to protecting the community. But this year marks a milestone never seen before: three generations of the same family serving side by side.

The Greene family’s story began in November of 2001. Fresh out of high school, Travis Greene knew he wanted to join the local department. Inspired by his son’s desire to serve and looking for a way to invest in the community himself, his father, Doug Greene, signed up alongside him.

Doug went on to serve the department faithfully for years, including spending a significant season as safety officer, offering steady wisdom and guidance drawn from both experience and a deep care for the crew.

Travis joined at just 19 years old, eager to learn. Over the years, he trained, responded to calls at all hours, and slowly took on more responsibility. In 2022, after two decades of commitment, he stepped into the role of chief, a testament to long-term dedication, leadership, and love for the town he calls home.

Now, the legacy continues.
In September 2025, Jadon Greene, Travis’ son, joined the department while beginning his own career after high school. Watching him put on the same gear and answer the same calls as his father and grandfather has been both humbling and deeply meaningful for the entire family.

For the Greenes, the fire department is more than a place to volunteer. It’s where values are lived out , service before self, commitment to community, and showing up when others are in need.

Three generations. One community. And a family grateful for the opportunity to serve together.
