Team Talk Tuesday: We are so happy to introduce Courtney Clark, Board Certified Behavior Analyst and clinical team leader here at Compass. Courtney pursued formal education at University of Massachusetts, Lowell, where she got her Bachelor’s in Psychology with a minor in Disability Studies, and specialization in Developmental Disabilities. In 2016 Courtney received her Master’s in Autism Studies, and became a Board Certified Behavior Analyst later that year. She comes to us with a wealth of education and experience and with a reverance for upholding the dignity and autonomy of the learners she works with. It's this philosophy and approach that make her a perfect fit for Compass. Please join me in welcoming Courtney.

Neurodiversity describes the idea that people experience and interact with the world around them in many different ways; there is no one "right" way of thinking, learning, and behaving. There are many natural differences across the spectrum of human brains. Differences are not viewed as deficits. In fact, we are stronger because of our differences. Each person has something unique and valuable to offer the world. Neurodiversity refers to all people but it is often used in reference to individuals across the spectrums of Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, Dyspraxia, etc.
We celebrate individual differences in children.

Have you ever heard the phrase “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care?” That’s true of our students as well. Our first goal is always to build a strong rapport with kids so they know we are invested in them and in their corner. We support skill buildling by focusing on kids’ strengths and connecting over their interests.

Here’s a sliver of a sneak peek of new clinic space at Compass. We are so excited to share more with you very soon! In the meantime, if you aren’t busy this weekend we hope you’ll come see us at Story Land for their Sensory Sensitive Weekend. We just love it when local businesses consider ways to contribute a more inclusive world. We’ll be past the animals near the carriage ride and our BCBA Courtney Clark will be on hand to chat. Have you met Courtney? She’s so much fun and I heard something about epic bubble making plans. We can’t wait to see old friends and make new ones this weekend!
