It's that time of year again!! The snow is melting, temps are getting warmer and people are getting excited to burn all that brush from our winter storms or last year's yard projects! Here are a couple of reminders before you light off your brush pile:

-Fire permits are required for ALL burning, whether it is the small campfire for your marshmallows or the massive pile of branches you've collected for the past few winters.

-While we're waiting for the rest of the snow remnants to melt, you can burn brush piles without a permit, however, the pile must be surrounded by accumulated snow for 100 feet in any direction. It also still needs to be 50 feet from any structure.

-Furniture, plastics, or trash of any kind are banned from being burned. Please take them to the dump!

New Hampshire Forests & Lands have more rules, regulations and resources on their website, including online permitting: https://www.nhdfl.dncr.nh.gov/forest-protection/fire-permits

You can also get permits written at our fire station at 1593 East Main Street, Center Conway NH. If you have questions about permitting you can reach out to the state DNCR office or call the station at 603-447-5671. If you have concerns about a burn pile you see, please dial 911. Remember, only you can prevent wildfires!

Please be safe and happy burning!

With warmer temperatures arriving, ice conditions are rapidly changing and could become thin and unsafe. Even ice that appeared solid just days ago may no longer support weight.

Tonight our members completed our annual ice rescue training to stay prepared for these emergencies. Please remember:

• Avoid going out on questionable ice
• Never assume ice is safe just because others were on it earlier
• If someone falls through, call 911 immediately and do not attempt a risky rescue yourself

Cold water can incapacitate in minutes.

Stay safe and use caution around lakes, ponds, and rivers during this transition period. Photos from tonight’s training will be posted below.

This will give the homeowner or tenant a review of the current fire safety systems and any other recommendations we can provide to strengthen the safety of your home.

For any questions or to schedule a time for your safety survey, please call the station at 603-447-5671, or message our page!

Last night the Center Conway Fire and Rescue department performed their annual chimney fire / ground ladder training. Special thanks to our neighbors from the North Conway Firefighters Association for bringing Tower 2 to assist with training on aerial operations.

Chimney fires can quickly extend into your homes, in some cases causing irreplaceable damage or even total losses if not stopped quickly.

Reminder to have your chimneys cleaned and serviced annually, your first service call should not be the fire department!

Due to the ongoing drought conditions, the Governor has signed a proclamation banning burning of any kind (except category 1 permits at campgrounds) beginning today, Monday, September 22nd. The Town of Conway has also had a burning ban in effect for a few weeks.

These bans are for the safety of our community, wildlands and property. Unfortunately, in conditions like these, it takes very little for a permitted burn to quickly get out of hand and cause thousands of dollars in damage.

If you have a concern about a possible outside fire or an illegal burn, please don’t hesitate to call 911.

Late on Sunday evening, Center Conway Fire-Rescue was requested to assist the Fryeburg Fire Department and several other mutual aid departments with a fully involved abandoned building fire off of Porter Rd in Fryeburg.
